I'm trying to fix some of my villager's unfortunate house plots using amiibo cards to move out and in.

If I have 10 villagers and I kick one out, can the new villager plot immediately the next day? Meaning, do I just go ahead and plot reset as I normally would?

Last time I did this I messed up so I don't want to make the same mistake again.

When you have 9 villagers, the tenth one doesn't move in immediately. You have to get him by either taking him from another town or visiting a town that has a villager moving, or of course the campsite. If you have 8 villagers, You can expect someone else to move in as soon as a day after. Though I’ve also have had rare cases where they delay it to two days after instead of one.

Ah, I think you misunderstood my question.

I have 10 villagers. I am kicking one out with an amiibo card because I don't like where her house is. She is in boxes now.

Will the villager I invited with the amiibo card plot the next day or the day after because I have 10?

Okay. I just wasn't sure because there is technically 'no space' when I ask them to move in. I'll plot reset as normal then.

I did what you are trying to do quite recently with one of my villagers who had a bad plot. Yes, they do plot immediately the next day.

I had 10 villagers and I wanted to move Ken around. I kicked out Ken with Phoebe's card. The very next day, Ken's house disappeared and Phobe's plot appeared. Plot Phoebe into place using the plot resetting method (starting up a new character, etc etc.). Deleted my alt character, moved on with mayor. The day Phoebe's house showed up (the day you greet her). Once you see her plot, you can summon another character.

Anyways, every time you summon a card in, invite a villager naturally, or invite from the campsite, you should always just start a new alt just to be sure. Even if their plot doesn't appear the next day, at least you will be safe :> Just keep making a new character until the plot appears.

edit

also you can be strategic with your plot resetting. amiibo villagers are known to get "stuck" (they rarely ask to move and sometimes even move into old villager spots constantly and not the desired spots unless they are covered). so if you can, wait till others move out naturally. that way you can ensure you cover up their old spots. or at least make sure you load your game before the day starts so you can cover their spot.

Yeah that's gonna be my frustration. I kicked Diana out and I feel like that new villager is gonna keep going where she was. x-x Hopefully I'll luck out.

Yeahh hopefully not! I found that it's easier if you have other "Open spots" other than your desired area. If you JUST have the area you want + the villagers old open spot (since they just got kicked), you might have a harder time because the RNG will only focus on those two spots and you might get unlucky and get the same spot over and over again. When I was plot resetting, I left several spots that "could work" if I was feeling really lazy and didn't want to keep resetting. But I found that by doing that, the villager cycled through the spots quicker and eventually did plot into my desired spot after 5 tries. However, when I did the plot resetting method after I was able to cover up the old villager's plot, they plot in my desired spot on the first try with no issues! Of course, this is just my experience from it and maybe not everyone will be the same). Good luck with it!! :>

I'm starting to think the spot I wanted for them won't actually work. There is buffer room for the house but I'm starting to think it's too close to the plaza. I'm only on try four though so we'll see I guess.
