Moving back in question

I completed the 16 Villager Cycle for Hamlet, and I'm curious: If he moves back in, will he remember me? Or is it like getting a new villager?

I thought they remembered you if it's the same villager (like a friend held a villager for you when that villager was in your town)

If your villager moved into someone's town and then you invite them back into your town they will mention that it "will be great to be neighbor's again"....but that is about it. They won't mention anything else about living in your town before.
