Moving a villager back in resets friendship?

So I have a Punchy card and Punchy is a villager currently in my town. If I move him out and use his card to force some villagers out and then use it again to bring him back in does he return with the same level of friendship/etc or does he come back completely original? Hoping someone has done this to move out some unwanted villagers and can let me know

Pretty sure he comes back as a new Punchy, original.

aw yea I figured that was the case but was hoping since he'd still be in my 16 cycle that it would be a different

Unless someone adopted your Punchy and then you were then able to adopt him back you'll get a new one. Going through the adoption will mean you have to wait for the 16 villager cycle.
