So, someone let me have one of their villagers that was in boxes, and the villager accepted my request to move; but the person said that the 'moved' sign wasn't there after I'd gone.

Did it still go through, or will it not work if the 'moved' sign isn't there? Because the villager definitely said he was moving to my town...

It didn't work. Are you sure you have enough open space (land) to fit another house? If your town is heavily covered with PWPs, there might not be enough land.

Possibly STill Moving

I had the same happen myself. Teddy was going to move in, but never came. So I waited a few days, and it turns out he did move in (I don't time travel... YET)! You could time travel forward to see if he makes it, then go back, which would be my first thing. But if he agreed, he will most likely go in unless you asked mutiple other people. :)

That means that the other person can still go into the villager's house, correct? Did something happen after you invited the villager over and the villager accepted? Did the other person save but then you got disconnected for whatever reason (meaning you didn't leave properly). If the session wasn't ended properly/you didn't leave by train properly and the connection died/you got Resetti'd, there's a chance that the adoption didn't go through

If the other person is up for it, you could try going there and adopting the villager again to see if the villager still brings up the moving prompt.

Everything went fine, I just asked the villager to move and he accepted, then I went outside, the person I was getting him from ended the session, and I went home. Everything saved. I don't understand! :(

And my town isn't full to the brim with PWPs, I still have some free space, although there might be a flower or a tree or two there...

That's odd. I don't think that it would hurt if you went back and tried to adopt the villager again, so perhaps try that? As long as you can still go in the villager's house and talk to them, I'd say just try again.

And flowers/trees have no effect on villagers moving in since they can be destroyed. Even PWPs shouldn't affect it, at least for now. If you filled your town with PWPs, the villager may have issues plotting, but there shouldn't be issues at just the adopting stage since the game wouldn't be able to calculate that until after the villager is in the process of moving in, so to speak.

Edit: I guess you could also time travel forward if you're comfortable with that and see if the villager shows up. If not, then you could try adopting again.

I think the person went offline, and I'm kind of starting to freak out :(

Is there a way you can TT to find out if it worked?

Ah, okay. Hopefully they didn't time travel as well and move the villager out. You can time travel a day forward and see if there are any plots (start up a new character, do everything you usually do if you plot reset, etc.) In my experience, villagers you invite from other towns just need one day to move in. The only times where I've heard that they take multiple days is if there a villager moving out of your town or something like that; then the game needs a few extra days to process it.

Edit: Oh, another thing. I'm not sure on this, but I think that you'd have to use the 3DS system clock, since using the in-game clock requires loading an existing character. I'm not sure on that, though.

Okay, thanks! I didn't see your reply. Is there a way you can TT and check while still plot resetting?

So, should I change the 3DS clock and plot reset like normal?

And they might have, because their town was at night...

I think my time in NL is different from my 3DS clock... will that affect anything?

I've actually had it take up to 5 days for someone to move in. The important thing is not to panic. If it all saved on your side, you should be fine.

It depends, what's the time in your game?

Yes, I'm positive everything saved...

Just a few hours difference, I think...

So, should I try TTing?

If we want to keep this as simple as possible, go back to the day you invited him in (I think it's today.), and change your time to the regular one. (NEVER start a new day.) TTing should be safe after that.

So, I should TT a few days forward with the 3DS clock and plot reset with a new character, then open up my mayor and TT back to today? (And yes, I did just invite the villager in about twenty minutes ago)

TT to tomorrow using your 3ds clock. Make a new character and check all over your town to see if anyone moved in. If no one has moved in, move the date ahead by one day at a time. I'd give up around 2 weeks in.
