most effective method of getting natural dirt paths?

i'm currently using a temporary dirt pattern for my path, but i'd really love to have natural dirt paths instead. what is the most effective method, besides just running every day? are there any tricks to it? I read that you can run, save and quit, run again, repeat to wear it down quicker. does that work?

1) get flowers from the island
2) use flowers bordering where you want your natural path
3) run for a month until grass wears

you could also place paths and run on those. the grass dies under the paths too.

Run, run, and run some more! I'm also working on natural dirt paths; so far, I have a patch of dirt. ^^
