Multiply the second equation by (-1) to eliminate y.

y=4x + 2
-y =-6x + 10

Add both to eliminate y, then:

0 = -2x + 12
2x = 12
x = 6

Then substitute in one of the two equations. I'll use the top one:

y = 4(6) + 2
y = 26

To check, insert both values in both equations.

26 = 4(6) + 2 check
26 = 6(6) - 10 check
 
Bul you are right, but you used combinations and not substitution (at least my school taught your method as combination and there's another method called substitution where you take one equation and find the value, substitute it into the other and find what that is and substitute back into the oringal to find both answers.
