There seems to be this crazy fixation with rare items among some players I've met. Don't get me wrong, I understand collecting and showing off a bit too, but when it gets to this point I feel like they're missing the point of the game.

Streetpassed this person a few days ago. I thought it was an alt at first but it says he's the mayor and he has all kinds of badges and everything. And I also remember meeting a guy a while back who had the smallest possible house but owned freakin 7-11's, sloppies, streetpass items and so forth. This was before the duplication glitch. And I don't think he had any PWP set up either.

I realize people can play however they want, but isn't AC about a little more than just hoarding stuff deemed valuable?

What do you guys think?

wow.. erm.. that is interesting. personally, i find that a bit tacky. i mean. that guy is showing off his items to the highest extent possible. he literally dedicated his entire house to it. but to each their own, everyone plays the game how they want, i guess. personally, it's just not my style to show off my items, let alone dedicate every room to seemingly 'popular' and 'rare' ones. i've never been a collector when it comes to AC. i just don't see the point in it. you get all these rare items, and then what? you put them in storage and let them rot? or do you place every piece out to show off? i dunno, man. just not my thing.

i just like playing it and collecting whatever i get on the way. i don't think it's all about items or having the 'best town' so you can show off. i think it's more about whether you enjoy or like the look of your own town, or your villagers. just my opinion.

its just bad luck that my three dream items are really rare. Luckily i found the violet screen on the trading forums. I'm still on the hunt for the lily record player and the lily lamp. for me, its just because they are sooo soo pretty

On this episode of Hoarders: Animal Crossing...
...But geez, that kid got all those items already?

I like collecting and playing but showing it all off like it's the end of the world, geez.

i just said it wasn't my thing. i'm not talking about the Lovely Series, or Paintings, i'm talking about hard-core collecting. like this guys doing. i'm saying i don't see the point in getting ALL of those items. once you're finished, what do you do then? does your house just stay a warehouse for showing off or..? just isn't for me. that's it. ._.

The only hardcore thing I'm doing is finish the museum. And that's not even hardcore, I know many people who finished the fossil section already. Because of the rainy season there were so many gyroids -.-

So you live in Portland, Jizg? There must be a lot of gamers there o_o

I dont get that many. Usually just one or two when I go into a public place like downtown

the person probably just has a bad sense of interior decor and would rather just show off all their rare items

I may not like the looks of that room but I wouldn't say that he/she is missing the point (as if there were only one) of ACNL. It's a largely self-directed game where the player is trusted to create many of their own objectives, and aren't really penalized for ignoring the ones the game gives you- if his objective is to collect everything in the game, then he's "doing it right" and who are we to say that he is having fun the wrong way?

If someone ends up with a home like that in my showcase, I'm just gonna delete the home or never visit it. It's highly unattractive and you can't enjoy a room that's cluttered with stuff.
That's how I view it.

I have some Street Pass houses that look like that. Reminds me of Hoarders. Specifically have 1 person who has a whole room that literally every available space (can't walk into it) is taken up by remade furniture.

I do want to point out though that there are some people that do enjoy collecting items in video games. They see it as an interesting challenge to work towards. I am one of those people. However, I don't make Hoarders-type houses just to try to show off that I have x rare item. I have some extremely rare items in my game, but I either put them incorporated them into a room with how I wanted to decorate it, or I have one of my other characters store it in their closet.

That guy's so hardcore, they melted him down to make Wolverine's' adamantium skeleton!

That guy?s so hardcore, he crashed down to Earth and caused the extinction of the Dinosaurs!

That guy?s so hardcore, he was able to go into the Salty Spitoon without saying a word!

I'm sure most of the items are unorderables, but it might actually be there some so people can try to order SOME things? It also might just be a storage dump, I mean people make alts just so there's more room and personally I'm already running out of room on my one character, so I can understand needing some more for space, it makes sense to put them in the house if they're sets it's probably easier to grab. What if that's not his main character, and his regular house wasn't ready for viewing so he just stuck that temporarily? I dunno there could be multitiudes of reasoning for that.

Albiet, showing off is probably the most likely, it doesn't make it the actual reason.

What she means is that people shouldn't really show off and enjoy AC to what it is: having fun.

What if that's said persons definition of 'having fun'?

I think I've learned it's best not to question anybody. Sure, there's a format and there's a recommended way to play every game, but ultimately a game is about your personal definition of having fun. The Sims is about creating a simulated life but a vast majority of people will purposely kill their sims just to see them die in different ways despite that being far from the original intent. In the end, nothing said person does effects you personally. So try not to worry about it too much.

Whilst I admire this player's dedication and I can probably think of his high HHA score, I would have to say that he has overdone it, I am happy to just furnish my house in the way that I feel.

I am not really too bothered about my HHA score at the end of the day as I happily furnished my house in Animal Crossing Wild World and Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City without cluttering the rooms and I've STILL got to well over 200,000 points in both games.
