I honestly got frustrated with all the unnecessary drama and took a couple of days off. Started playing Pok?mon X, in fact. I'll be cycling for a bit today, though, as I still want to accomplish the thing that made me start cycling in the first place: helping people find dream villagers. And yes, we do that on traditionally a first-come/first-served basis, no PM-system. The exceptions come into place when we move a villager who's likely to get sold on another site or even this one or when someone who's already done something that we've warned about (resetting a village after claiming Stitches or Julian or someone and promising not to reset again - but then doing it anyway. Selling a villager or using them as barter to "trade up" for a MORE wanted villager, etc.). These exceptions aren't just our being mean. It's honestly just us trying to make sure that people get their dream villagers for FREE rather than someone claiming a free villager here and selling it to someone for whom it IS a dreamy in order either to profit from it or to buy/trade up for one they wanted more.

Over time, you might find that you don't like your villager as much as you thought you would when you claimed. That's fine. It happens. It also happens that sometimes they get into boxes for various reasons. When that happens, all we ask is that you give them away. Don't ask for things in return, including other villagers. Just give them away, like we did for you.

This isn't complicated. If we turn down your claim, there's a reason. If you want to know what it is, as us in PM. We don't bite -- most of us. And we're far less likely to sound frustrated if we're discussing it one-to-one in a PM instead of in the thread distracting from the cycling.

I love ACNL. I'm pretty attached to my favourite pixels. I get that it's hard to be turned down if you haven't built the reputation to claim a "big name" dreamy yet. Just stick around. I promise you that they'll show up again. I got Beau in both towns once within 24 hours of each other. Bam shows up a lot. And I personally have a love for the less popular villagers, so I have no trouble giving away Stitches or Marshal or Merengue, Ankha or a lot of the others. And I give them away because I think it's ridiculous to expect someone to pay 15 million in pixel money or more for pixel critters.

When we first started, it was a lot of fun. We had actually a community building in the thread. But random people would join the forum, search for popular villager giveaways and then get upset when we didn't give them the one they wanted and rant in the thread, ruining it for everyone.

I know the rules seem long, but they basically break down to: 1. Be nice. 2. PM and ask questions 3. Put your dream villagers in your signature so we can see that you're looking for them. 4. We don't reserve or give advance notice. 5. It's *usually* first-come/first-served, but each cycler has the final say on any villagers they're giving away.

The rest of the stuff is specifically fleshing out why the rules are what they are. Believe me when I say we don't have any rules that haven't arisen from situations we've encountered. This venture started originally with my second copy of ACNL and 2 rules: don't be a jerk and no reservations. We've had to add a few more. As time went on, Pengu assumed leadership insofar as she makes the new threads, she makes useful templates for us and she does a lot of record keeping -- things you guys don't see. Things that people would be paid to do in any other situation. She keeps the organization going for us.

Twi is on a totally different time zone so if she seems to be putting up dreamies in the middle of what is the night for you, please remember that depending on where you are, there's a massive time difference. Also, with health issues and dental work, she's a little cranky and in pain right now, but she's still cycling. She still cares enough to do it.

DaCoSim has several copies. She also has several children, a husband, work and homelife to balance, but she cycles a LOT when she can.

Novi burned out quickly. Enjoying giving someone dream villagers was fantastic. The thread-wankery got to be too much.

Loki is starting up again. Let's not burn her here at the start of a new thread, okay?

Zoraluv took Novi's place. She loves it so much, but hates so much the feeling you get when you've tried to do something nice and someone else yells at you because you didn't do what THEY wanted you to. Nobody likes that feeling.

As for myself? Originally, I intended to cycle only long enough to get my dream characters into both my towns and end it. But I loved it. I *still* love it. I cycle at weird hours because my income is from my writing and I do that when I have the most quiet time and the best focus and cycling is sometimes the way I take a break to let the words cook. But there are times when I open the thread and think "Who's going to be mad at me today?"

The cyclers who work together in this thread are friends. We've gotten to know and care about each other and when anyone does or says something hurtful to them when they literally spent extra money to buy a second (or third or even fourth) copy of the game just to help others? Well, it's upsetting. You'd probably respond similarly if you constantly read someone ragging on your friend for not giving you something for free and instead choosing to bestow that gift on another who met the criteria better.

All I want you to do is consider for a minute that we only do this to help, that we have rules for reasons and that we're not some enclave trying to exclude new people. We're happy to have new people! But we can't give Stitches to an account created the same minute he was announced with no feedback and no idea how cycling threads work. That's not going to change. But stick around. The longer you're here, the more we can see that you care about this community, you participate and you build reputation. Then when you preferred pixels pop up? Well, claim them! You'll be established! In fact, you'll have gotten to know and care about other people and be on the lookout for THEIR dream villagers, too.

Just... stick with us. Just because you didn't get the villager this time doesn't mean you'll never get him/her. I promise.

I honestly got frustrated with all the unnecessary drama...
Sorry that you guys experience drama. :( I know that me and a lot of other people appreciate what you do in spending time helping others get their dream villagers. Thank you :D

T- HEAR, HEAR!!!

Very eloquently stated, and I agree with your post on all fronts. The people who politely stalk threads, follow all rules (which are not that difficult), and pick up villagers with no issues are the reason I cycle. People are butts sometimes, but I just remember why I started in the first place: to help people get the villagers they want without paying ridiculous amounts of bells. <3
