We all know what scamming is. it probably happened to somebody replying to this thread. but here is a method on how to stop it
-If the person tries to leave or kick you out, and you see the green strip that says "Somebody is leaving" or you see it without being able to check the payment if it is correct or you haven't talked to the villager yet, click the home button and 'X' out the game. if you time it right and do it while the green strip is on the screen, your communication will be interrupted, and nothing saved from the trade. this means you still have the villager and/or payment

People will also drop 3 stacks of NMT, but they'll be 1 per stack instead of 10. this is another method people use(same goes with Bells)
REMEMBER TO RECORD TRANSACTIONS SO THEY CAN BE REPORTED!

this is useful and good to know, thank you!
its a shame that people would actually scam, but im not surprised either ;c
i never had a scammer on this site, but i always like to do this to record the transaction:

when i send them the dodo code for the trade, in the title of the conversation i like to put:
[the item thats being traded] > [amount being paid]

it helps me keep track and its a nice reminder to the other person in case they ever forget what the trade was for!

I haven’t been scammed yet. I don’t do tons of trades and when I do it’s only here. Our feedback system is a good safeguard and our community is generally very honest, in my opinion.
The stacks of NMT thing is so shady. I don’t understand why people do stuff like this. It’s useful to know so thank you for sharing!!

I haven't but I also don't trade for anything that's super expensive from a site other than this one. I try to limit my transactions to only take one pocketful since it can be risky to take multiple trips (especially for trades on Discord where there's no feedback system).

I love this site due to its feedback system so I'd feel safer making a larger transaction here. I haven't even thought about the NMT scam and that's really really shady. How do people come up with this stuff?

I've never been scammed face to face. I just had a person on my friend list agree to send me something for something else. I mailed them the items and they never mailed me back what we agreed on.

I've never been scammed, I only trade on here though and I haven't ever done any multiple trips transactions

how do you record stuff?
only time I ever managed to do that was when I slammed my switch into my bed frame on accident lol

haven't been scammed yet, but i have had a bad experience trading nook miles items with someone on tumblr who didn't follow through, so i ended up with a bunch of extra nook miles items that i didn't want myself which was annoying. always love reading these threads for tips/psas.

I have never been scammed but I'm way too careful and lucky. I would say to only buy common items on other websites and buy rarer things here. Your patience pays off ^^ People really care about rating here. On nookazon I saw people with 3 stars, with a "Scammer" review, making listings as normal,,, And some people give bad reviews for no reason, just trolling.

ngl the dropping 1-stacks of NMTs reminds me of people who try to pass off 1 chaos as 10 chaos in PoE lol
or 6-sockets as 6-links. those people are the worst!

Personally, I don't think I've gotten scammed yet. There are some people who can be unresponsive or occasionally my schedule doesn't work out with theirs (and I'm sorry if that ever happens q_q) but other than that, I've been able to trade pretty smoothly with most people here ^-^

I haven’t been scammed yet, thank the Nooks. I always take a proactive approach in life so I check ratings well before even approaching someone about a deal or accepting an offer. I do make exceptions because I know it can be hard to get started with no rating.

I just joined not too long ago and every person I’ve met and traded with on this site has been lovely. Most the people who end up trading with me are long time users and have a bunch of nice reviews, so if anything I feel like I’m the one that has to prove myself xD it’s a good system you guys have here. I’m impressed!

oh no >< i think i've dropped nook mile tickets in potentially-suspicious stacks before, hopefully i didn't spook anyone. i'll be mindful of that.
anyway, no! i have not been scammed in new horizons or new leaf. i'm lucky, but i think all my trades i've done were between friends or on here. i just trust people more here because uh.. idk. the system is pretty good and things tend to be smooth (i've had a couple people just disappear from trading threads but it wasn't like i paid them something and didn't get my end of the deal)

I've had some issues with people not paying what they promised before (in offsite transactions -- I haven't had any case where someone didn't make a good-faith effort to pay what they owed, although I have had my fair share of miscommunications about that sort of stuff). To be honest, griefing / people going where they're not supposed to is an equally big concern for me, so much so that I fenced off my airport from the rest of my town. I have heard multiple stories of people shaking trees, taking DIYs off the ground (which were located in places that visitors weren't supposed to access in the first place), or otherwise defying common-sense rules about visiting someone else's town.

As long as you're vigilant against the possibility for being scammed, then you should (probably) be fine, especially on this site. The rating system is widely used, accepted, and followed here, which acts as a pretty strong deterrent for anyone attempting to do anything stupid. But that doesn't mean you should ignore the possibility for bad visitors to do bad things.

just a note - I believe this has to be done within the first 3 or so minutes of the visit or the game will autosave

yeah, this is kind of the ish and why I'm very on edge about very expensive villager transactions unless they let me go first.
I actually accidentally scammed someone out of 80nmt a couple weeks ago because I errored out, thinking they were trying to scam me (they told me, truthfully, that they forgot they didn't have an open plot so I errored in panic)

I didn't even mean to do it, but the game saves very quickly after the person visits. (i did give them back btw lol)
the best way to not get scammed with big transactions is honestly to only go for trustworthy sellers. be it feedback on TBT or ratings on Nookazon, just check the person out before going through with anything, and check to see if they'd be ok with you going first or doing half first and half after you've received the villager or items

this is very useful, thank you! i’ve been lucky so far but this is why i’ll only trade with people with 100% ratings or people who ive seen around if they haven’t traded before ;w;

Are we allowed to call people out on this site if they try to scam you? Or is that unethical?
