This young lady is one of the most promising young jazz vocalists on the scene right now. I never got Norah Jones or Diana Krall, but Gardot is the real deal. She writes all her own music and can play the guitar/piano relatively well. With most guitar playing vocalists, you only see them play your usual major/minor/dominant chords, but Melody actually mixes it up with some decently cool inversions. Check her out:

Her story is also really inspiring. She was hit by a car when she was 19 and was bedridden for a few years. Her short term memory was totally shot, as was her ability to speak, and she became hypersensitive to light and sound (hence the dark glasses). Her doctor recommended music therapy, and she started playing the guitar/piano. Her recovery is often cited by music therapists as a great example of the healing power of music. She obviously didn't fully recover, but the fact that she is essentially self-taught with everything is amazing. A rare talent, for sure.
