Tried it too but just like the lost items I didn't got the option.
Though some people say it's possible to drop the lost items but I just don't get it how without hacking.

lost item is possible without hacks. you just don't return it and you give a couple days down the line and the can't give it back.
Aaaah ok thanks haha. But I'm not patient enough to do that... my mind just tells me to give the lost item back because it's sad. Plus there's a chance to get pictures. And in the case I get a 2nd picture of a villager I know there is a certain person in this topic who maybe wants it

I feel the same about presents! I would love to use them as decor around Christmas time but there’s not option to drop them once you pick them up
I keep my treasure hunt prezzz for a day and use em as decor in my Santa's village.

I was just thinking this yesterday. I picked up the bottle yesterday and was hoping to move it somewhere else, but was sad to find out it was not possible.
