May Day 2021

What are your thoughts ?!

I'm in the process of restarting it for the 4th time because I go too fast

It's different from last year, right? Or do I just have a terrible memory?

Yes, the map is different this year. I haven't fired up the Switch yet today, but am excited to give it a go.

I haven’t had time to play it yet. Excited for the new map. If I have time I will be trying the maze later today.

Not too overly complicated as I initially thought when starting out haha. Just a lot of resetting till I figured out where and when I should be using the fruit. Kind of wish they substituted the Bell Tickets with something a bit more tempting. I just by passed them all to get right to Rover.

I like that it's a unique event.
I like that it's a new maze from last year.

I dont like how it's trial and error. Had to reset twice before I got the order right.

I'm also not a fan of how this year you get his photo. I wanted a second briefcase.

Over all I'd say I'm happy with it

I do like that it was not the same maze/reward as last year, I kinda expected that it would be. I went through it looking carefully at which rewards I'd get for certain actions and managed to do it first try, I do also think it was simpler than I thought it would be when I went in.

Not sure I'll ever use this year's reward, but overall the event was a fun little thing to do.

I was pretty terrible at it, but then I'm awful at mazes IRL, so that's not a surprise. I couldn't figure some of it out, so I eventually resorted to a guide, but I did most of it by myself. I do agree though that I dislike the trial and error element, I've got plenty of Nook Miles so there was no problem for me on that front, but it would have been nice to do it without having to restart over and over again.

It was fun to solve the maze, not too complicated, but I had to restart it once. Got all bell vouchers with no problem. I talk to Rover but he didn’t gave me his photo, he told me he will send a letter, I guess that is where he will send it? I hope so cause I already left the island

I thought it was fun, but I've heard there's no way to get Rovers photo if it's your first time meeting them. I hope someone figures a way around this if that's the case.

Apparently people who haven't done last year's maze will get that one instead, and since you can only do the event once per year, it sounds like anyone who hasn't been playing since 2020 will always be behind, making this the first event with missable event items. Or is there some way around that I'm not aware of?

I read that last year people received the suitcase when they flew back to their island, but I didn't receive anything in the mail. Did they change that or did my game glitch?

Yes I did think that it was easier than last year to get all the bell tickets, but I definitely had to restart more just to get through it. If I remember well last year I almost didn't have to reset, except to figure out how to get all of the bell tickets.

Regarding the suitcase, it appears it is the item you get when you complete the May Day Maze for the first time, regardless of the year. Which I think is the best way to do this so no one feel like they're missing out, even though I understand people might feel frustrated to not get this year's reward

Since I played it last year I will give my thoughts. It plays exactly the same as last year. Isabelle mentions that there is May Day Tour happening around April 29th, 2021. You go talk to Tom Nook and he mentions that there is a May Day Ticket for you at the Dodo Airlines. The Maze itself is different from last year and its a bit a hard one to complete. Once you finished the maze, Rover is there and he doesn't give you the Briefcase like last year, instead he will write you a letter. You have to wait tomorrow for this happened. When you check your mailbox the next day you will get a new gift from Rover in the Mail and its "Rover's Photo". So just like last year its a one day event meaning that once you do it once you cannot redo it again unless you have additional users.

Overall I do like the change they did with the Maze and it actually was challenging only took me like 6 tries to figure it out but at the end it was worth it. So I will rate this event a 8/10. However, there is something I have to warn you guys. Just a warning for those who are about to do the May Day Event today. If you did not do the event last year you will not be able to obtain. Rover's Photo instead you will receive Rover's Briefcase from the event that occurred last year, this is only for new players who did not play the event last year. If you're a returning player and have played the event last year you don't have to worry too much.

I tried and failed miserably just not good at mazes. I shamelessly got my son to do it for me might try again later myself as I need to occupy my brain and would love another briefcase
