Talk about the GotY every year right here.
I haven't touched the demos yet, I'm staying pure from it until I buy it so I can get a new and fresh experience. I'm psyched for the online though, can't wait to be a drell adept. I also have a save file all the way from Mass Effect 1 to start with too.

I've been checking gamestop every week to see if they have any of 1&2 for cheap so I can go all the way through with one character. Also, you're not missing anything from the demo, about 80% of it is a really long intro cutscene.
but I'm pretty pumped for it, it's going to be amazing

Did you check the marketplace? I'm willing to be Mass Effect 1 is at least up. Also I think for Xbox there is a DLC for ME2 where you can do the backstory comic so you won't even have to play ME1 and make major decisions in that.

For those that don't know, there is a character that is incredibly important in terms of story. If you've played the previous ME titles and cared any, you'd hate to miss this due to not having bought the Collectors edition.
And that's the only way to get said character and their missions.

In my opinion, I think it's ridiculous for them to add a character so paramount that they force players to buy the collector's edition.. and that **** isn't cheap! $20 more for US and ?20 for the UK! That's nonsense. 20 bucks does not equal 20 pound.

Was it confirmed that it was only a pre-order/collector's edition bonus? I thought it would be like Cerberus Network and give you the stuff. Either way, it doesn't affect me terribly much, I had it pre-ordered. But From Ashes is intriguing... Hopefully the DLC characters won't be boring push X to talk characters like in ME2.

For those wondering why this DLC is so important, here is the spoiler.

It is a Prothean squadmate. A PROTHEAN. You know, those guys continually referenced throughout Mass Effect 1 and 2? The guys supposedly extinct? The people wiped out by the Reapers in the previous cycle? Yeah, one of those is available to be in your squad.

And no matter how Bioware can play it off, this will be important enough for people to complain about. I mean, this is continually referenced throughout the series and they are abusing the fact that they know people will want to pay for this out of their greed.
