If you're waiting on Merengue and it seems useless, just restart with no guilt or regrets. There's always the chance that she'll never leave (Punchy has taught me this well).

I understand why you're reluctant to reset her, but I've cycled Punchy over 200 times (400+ years) and he's still hanging around. I've started to build up this town for my own purposes, and so I might just be giving up on getting him out. He'll forever be here to bother me whether I like it or not.T___T I can't help feeling guilty knowing that I could have given her to someone who has been looking for her for so long. ~_~ And a very kind person got this Merengue for me by trading her Marina to someone else... u__u

Set yourself a limit. "After x more cycles, whether she's out or not I'm going to reset." That might make it a little easier.
