Marina in ACNL and Splatoon?

Who thinks if Nintendo took Marina from ACNL and implemented her as a character in Splatoon 2? they're both octopuses and have the same name...

Either a very odd coincidence, or INTENTIONAL?

It's obviously a coincidence, they don't look similar at all. I don't see Nintendo crossing IPs like that either. (Despite Smash) I don't think they'd ever do that.

Fun Fact: ACNL and Splatoon are made by the exact same companies.

You can see literally so many ACNL items/PWP's in Splatoon 1. There's the ramen noodles in Piranha Pit, you can see the climbing frame in Flounder Heights as well as the use of the robust cicada sound effect near the trees, there's wavebreakers literally everywhere, tabletop game in Ancho-V Games and the list goes on.

I don't think it's a coincidence or intentional use, but rather a reuse of the name. They don't have anything in common otherwise.

Marina's (AC) Japanese name is Takorina, and Marina's (Splat) Japanese name is Ida, purely a coincidence on localization.

ANYWAY my actual thought on this is if they make her into a splatoon character, it better be as cute as marina in acnl :3
