i got my second copy of acnl a couple days ago and didn't think i'd be too picky while choosing a map, but i've been resetting my game for 2 days straight...

i have very specific things i'm looking for in a map, particularly a certain river shape, vertical slope to the beach, peaches/apples, green train station and blue town hall, only one pond, center plaza and triangle grass.
i realize it's absolutely ridiculous at this point but i can't help it! i absolutely hate my current map so i just want this one to be perfect

i'm not so sure if it's good to be this picky anymore, i sorta just wanna start playing now haaah

did you guys reset for your map? do you wish you did?
what kinds of things do you guys look for in a map? discuss!

I reset thousands of times for my map (literally thousands, I looked in my activity log!) It was definitely worth it in the end though because now I have a map with almost all of my favourite stuff :)

While I was resetting I was also looking for a certain river layout with buildings in particular places, ponds in specific places too because I had big plans to build around them. I wanted apples or peaches as my fruit, I needed circular grass, a green/brown train station and a yellow town hall. I wanted a cove in my beach, a vertical ramp down to the beach and a perfect spot to put my home - which meant that the big lake in the river had to be in a specific area for it to work!

In the end I got most of that. It took me forever but I'm so happy with my town now :D

I freaking have OCD with finding the perfect map, lets just say its been 5 months looking for a map. this is how it pretty much goes:

*town I like*

ooh this is nice, oh but look at that horrible placement of retail, and it doesn't have a pond near the train station, whatever just check it out anyway.......
oohh horrible villagers, wtf, why would Nintendo put a freaking zombie pig In this game...... ok lets place my house over here.
"Sorry cant place your house here" shove a sock in it tom! What do you mean you cant freaking put a house here. *Next words I cant say on here* okk whatever *Turns off game*

I hate resetting for maps because I get soo mad, and when I find a map the nextits like, oohhh I wanna reset.
I know and feel your pain.....:( grrrrr.... so upset with this resetting stuff. (I feel better that I ranted about this tbh)

I tried to not make myself too picky when resetting for my second town otherwise I wouldn't ever stop resetting, I've ended up being more picky with plot/house resetting of the villagers and my house placements. I bought a second copy of the game so I could 'perfect' a town because the map in my first/main town is awkward and kinda ruined and I didn't want to reset because of all the work I had already done.
I love my second town so far, although there's some things I'd rather change it's sometimes nicer to enjoy the actual gameplay rather than obsessing over things like not being able to place the bridge in this exact spot because it's too close to whatever.

Yeah I have very specific map requirements.
Most importantly the river can't be too long or have to many turns because it just chips the map up too much and doesn't allow for as much stuff.
Second importantly, circle grass! Square grass and nacho grass are unacceptable!

Also, the town can't have too many ponds as it takes away from the Land space. Also no pond right in front of the train station because I usually put a fountain there.

Having a beach with two connected ramps, or a ramp pointing directly to the pier are pluses, but not a deal breaker.

I'm not that picky
But for this town it fits with my theme
Was to have a split river in the middle
So all houses can go down

Retail and town hall close so I can put everyone close
As in cafe, campsite and police station

Then the down part all the houses to display many stuff

Because my theme is like
A zoo/ museum

Pretty much agree with this.
When I map reset for my new town I was kind of picky. It needed a straight river, apples, no more than 2 ponds, and none of my dreamies already as starters. Anything else I could work with.
Then when it came to house placements and plot resetting, thats when I became super super picky. I spent almost 2 weeks plot resetting, but only a few hours for my map.
I do agree that map resetting is pretty much necessary to get a good one, but I probably would never spend more than a day doing it, that's just me though.

No... when I first made my main town a year ago, I didn't reset my map at all. I restarted, but I did it because someone talked me into it. Now that I have over a year into my town, and seeing many really nice dream towns and towns on here, I'm starting to regret not resetting.

If I could, I'd likely reset for oranges or peaches (although I'm perfectly fine with the cherries I have now), a singular vertical ramp to the beach with a private island, a bendy river, and a waterfall that flows from the river and into the ocean vertically. It would be nice to remove the cafe I built too since I put it in a horrible spot, so I'm already half-tempted to reset just to get rid of the eyesore it is. Also, I'd make sure that retail and town hall are in one of the upper corners, so they're out of the way, and that there's as few ponds as possible that are out of the way too.

I reset for a while and got an AMAZING map... but I didn't like the villagers so I reset again lmao. I regret it a little, but on the next map, Gayle was one of the villagers, so I'm waiting for her to ping me so I can put her in my main town, and then I'm going to start resetting again.

Certain map layouts are very important if you have a vision for what you want your town to be. And don't let the first villagers make you reset if you love the map, villagers are way easier to come by than good maps.

This is ridiculous. I've seen people who reset for days, get a map they like and then reset again because they don't like their fruit or the shape of their grass, or the color of their train station (which can be changed). Or my favorite, there are rocks in the way of paths.

Don't be ridiculous. My map was one of the first four I was shown when I started and I've NEVER seen a map I like more than mine.

There is no such thing as a "perfect" map. But, you can make any map spectacular with some forethought and planning. I've had my town for 2 years, I've completed my museum, unlocked all the PWPs except one (Zen clock, come on Butch!!!), gotten most of the badges, and have almost a complete catalogue. Also, I've had over 500 dreamers, which would never happen if I reset now since so few people even play this game any more.

I choose my first main town in a rush too, but nothing is perfect so I just love the imperfection of what I had chosen and make it as perfect as I love it til now~

Like tolisamarie mentioned : There is no such thing as a "perfect" map

I didn't map reset for my main town, and it's worked out okay. I've thought about resetting a couple of times, but I've put way too much work in. I think part of the challenge of the game is working with your map restrictions.

In my cycling town, I only map reset a few times. I just wanted Re-Tail to be near the train station, access to both beaches, and apples as the native fruit. So it didn't take too long to find one that met my requirements. I know if I tried to be a perfectionist about it, searching for the "perfect map", I'd never stop resetting.

I did this for a looooooooooooooong time when I had to get a new ACNL cartridge after my son accidentally broke my old one. I won't say I got my ideal, but eventually I was so ready to just PLAY that I was like "Ok, next reset I am just picking the best of the 4 maps, and that is just THAT." and it just so happened that in that set of 4, there was actually a really decent one, so that's now the town of Momville. :3 But I get it. Seriously. Some days I got so burned out on map hunting that I almost hated the game. Lol.

ive had my third town for months and I still haven't found a map I like for it, lmao. I've been resetting on and off since I got it and just haven't found the one yet, but my other towns definitely keep me busy. I'd rather spend a lot of time picking a map and be happy with it, rather than just settle for one and end up hating it.

I LOVE resetting. For me the criteria are:

- one beach
- straight-ish river
- blue or brown train station and town hall
- circle grass (but I settled for triangle on my current town)
- cherries or peaches
- retail, town hall and plaza all north of the river
- enough room for all houses south of the river

And probably a lot more that I can't remember. It can drive you a little crazy but I just can't enjoy the game when there's something in the town that really bothers me.

I love how the game tends to attract perfectionists like me! It's really funny how many of us spend so much time resetting.

when i got my two other copies i didnt map reset forctoo long. in dripple i think i chose the map in the first few resets, and in tui i tried out a few maps that i didn't like. i'm not too picky and i really love my map in my 2nd town. in tui im a little but more Meh but i think it eill be fine, i really enjoy it this far so ^^

I have several towns and when I start a new one it gets progressively harder to get something different from what I already have and not duplicate any villagers (& I've got a few of them, I seem to be a magnet, amazing when there are 330 odd for the game to chose from).

I can usually work out when I really don't like a particular town layout (ie when I think its awful) but I find it hard to say whether a layout is good or average for me.

I keep my must haves to as few as possible: the last time it was just two, and the remainder of things I'd like to have I would compromise on.
It took 41 resets, which is the most I've ever done, and I let one town go that would have worked purely cos it had a duplicate villager and the town I ended up with still had one of those. Compromise.
Majority of layouts work, which is why I think I find it so difficult to decide whether a layout is good or average.

Just remember that there's no such thing as a perfect map and there's always going to be obstacles. I say just go for one that you think looks the nicest and meets all your requirements, don't worry so much about river bends I don't think any rivers in this game are completely perfect. I think with just enough work you can make any map look nice, you've just got to put some work into it! For example my map has the town hall right near the train station, but I wanted to use it to give myself a challenge and i'm pretty proud of what i've done so far. You can do anything if you put your mind to it!

I did the exact same thing... I found a town eventually, which is my current town and I love it! I had requirements like yours as well; very specific xD Eventually I found a town: it's perfect!
Keep going!
