Okay, the title makes it sound bad, but I hope it doesn't.

So what sort of things do you do to manipulate your villagers a bit?

Like, I have replaced all the patterns in Able Sisters with umbrella patterns so they can't wear any of those designs. I order pieces of their original furniture and put them up in Retail and when they come in, I push them towards it until they ping it and tell them to buy it.

Oh, and I also (not 100% if this works) but I fill up Retail spots with stuff so that they won't put their furniture in there.

What do you do?

I let them do what they please. Except for leaving, of course. They're permanent residents.

I do send them furniture sometimes to make their clothes pretty
and i spam them a lot to get their pics ;) No villager is allowed to leave until i have their pic

Lol, actually I do all those things except the design part

Keep all of my villagers in my town unless I get their picture.
They are my slaves c:

I'm actually the opposite with designs! I should probably calm down with the designs, but they're really fun to make and I love seeing my villagers wearing them. Currently, all of my villagers wearing designs are wearing my Monster Energy logo design. That was actually supposed to be a joke pattern for friends to grab when they entered my town, so my plan backfired a little there.

The only villager I like in my town is Phil, so I'll keep his furniture looking nice. I can't wait for the others to move out, though. >>

My attempts tend to fail. I sent Flurry a lovely set of soda-colored polkadot furniture to try and strong-arm her into having a prettier home and ditching all the random crud she picked up over the past months. She displayed the couch and table, the rest disapeared. ;_;

I don't trust sending furniture through letters. Mostly because they do that sort of thing.

I've had better luck making them buy it in Retail. Though it takes a lot of save and quits to try to get them to come into Retail.

I have this thing against villagers putting up tons and tons of shirts on display in their home when I just want them to wear it. I swear, Gabi's house was half-empty because she replaced her furniture with shirts. I make sure to always buy their clothing and never put any up for sale at Retail.

Sometimes I push them (literally!) to make certain purchases at Retail that I think would look good in their home. It also gets me good spare change. (And really, I don't get the concept of wanting villagers with their original furniture. In WW they even changed their walls and floors so it doesn't matter to me as long as their house doesn't look like a dump.) :D

I used to enforce the No-Moving-Until-You-Give-Me-Your-Picture rule, but ever since Harry came along I was just like "screw it".

The plot-resetting thing can be considered manipulative, right? So we're all guilty of that. XD I even make certain 3x3 path blocks that serve as substitutes for the signposts from earlier AC games, so when I expect a new villager to move in, I keep resetting until my villager moves on top of the 3x3 spot; this way I can ensure no harm is done to my town, even though it takes about an hour or two to get them on the right spot.

1) I also filled my Able Sisters with umbrellas. I wouldn't mind them wearing stuff from there if it were cool custom designs but... I'm horrible at designing stuff XD

2) I buy furniture/clothes I don't want in their house whenever I have the chance.

3) If they give me furniture I didn't want them to get rid of, I'll mail it straight back to them.

4) I fill up all empty Retail spaces with ores so they don't put their furniture up for sale.

5) I price said ores at 4x -1 the value, then push my villagers in front of one and tell them to buy it... This way I can make a nice profit without filling their house up with junk...

Reading over what I wrote, I now feel like a awful person ;__;

Oh, I also buy stuff in their houses that I don't want in there! Stuff like shirts and other out of place furniture. (Deirdre got a blue cabinet for Toy Day and I promptly bought it when she asked me over.)

I used to sell the coffee beans in Retail and make my villagers buy those. I'd make them 7,999 bells and they'd buy them. At 8k, they say it's too expensive.

If you got any ideas for what you'd want them to wear, give me some. I'd make some clothes for your little friends. It'd give me something to do besides my usual daily rounds.

What I do to Celia:

I push her until I get bored (20 minutes)

If she invites me to her house I buy all the possible furniture so her room looks empty, then sell it in retail and let my other villagers buy it.

I send her letters, saying i hate her and attatch ugly clothing

XD You do know of the "friendship ladder", right? As long as you keep interacting with her, you'll be more friends with her. You have to give her tons of LURV if you want to get her to move out faster.

I honestly have no clue ^^U But thank you for offering!

The idea about umbrellas is cool. I hate that white shirt and duck shirt. And they all end up in it at one point. Yuck.

I don't really do anything. Maybe I'll start taking up all the spots in retail so they wont mess up their houses. >.>

I push them in front of an item in Retail so that they can buy it xD
I'm mean ?3?

I put the same design on all the mannequins/display thingies to try and get Mira to wear it :S the trouble was that everyone wore it except her X_X
Oh yeah and I push them to items in retail so they buy it and keep the retail clean so that it can get new items
