This has been something that puzzled me for a while with this game. I never saw a reason to make another character in a single copy of New Leaf. In fact it seems counter-productive since the second character doesn't have mayoral powers.

The only reasons I've ever known people to do it are for things like having road designs and plot resetting.

I've already gotten most of the museum completed and all the stores upgraded to max, so if I were to make a new character I wouldn't even know what to do.

The only question on my mind is: Does a second character have access to the same bank account as the first? That seems like the main reason I would have to make one, to bleed away some of the excess funds that months of not making any PWPs has racked up.

I have two, just to hold designs. But it does give me more to do, because their houses need upgrading, and decorating, and that sort of thing.

And nope, the bank accounts are seperate. You can give them money by dumping it on the floor and saving, but that's it.

A second mayor has a completely separate bank account ^^.

I think some people have second characters if their siblings/friends also play on their copy of the game. Also, some people may have second characters for other reasons such as being able to design new characters with different faces/hairs/etc... for different occasions and what not xP.

I have a second character because I want the yellow tent (from the beginning of the game) to be permanently in my town. I also love the additional storage space it gives me :).

I like creating multiple characters for the reasons you already mentioned (paths, storage, plot resetting, etc), but the most important reason is that I like to create a character with their own personality and story and decorate their house accordingly. I have a lot of fun doing this. This is exactly why people also like to play the Sims.

O yeah, I forgot to add the fact that I created a character for my brother so he could play too, if he wanted too (he's never showed any interest though). I've seen a lot of people creating a second character for the same reason.

I made a second character just for qr space.
The pattern i'm using for road design takes up 9 out of the ten spaces.
The water pattern takes up 8 out of ten.
I'd like to have double the space per character, wishes.

I am upgrading and decorating both the inside and out.

I have four other characters because I love decorating their houses and dressing them up. :) It gives me more to do in the game and gives guests more reason to explore and check out it. :)

I love having a second account because first off like many of you have mentioned, it holds design but the only draw back to that is when you accidentally kick away a design on the ground and you have to switch characters to fix it.
Also it gives me more of a reason to play because I like to decorate houses and style my character, get badges, etc.
More storage is also another reason, because I know it's limited but a second character helps it out a lot!!!

I have my mayor and two side characters, mostly because I really like decorating houses and I need more than 6 rooms lol :>
I don't use them for designs at all lol, but I guess I will at some point
Atm I don't even use them for extra storage, but my mayor's storage is kind of full so I think I'll start doing that soon :>

I just made a second character a few months ago for a few reasons. 1, because my dressers were all full on my mayor character. 2, because my main character's house is pretty much complete and I wanted another house to decorate. And 3, because then you get to catch all of the bugs again! I love catching bugs so having an empty bug catalog is exciting. :D

If you have a theme town then having extra characters can make the town feel more complete for dream visitors.

Extra storage space, for both qr codes and items.

Collecting extra once-per-character items, it may feel a bit cheatsy but if you get rid of your Brewster's cafe furniture or just want some extra coffee cups from the set then a spare character can get the furniture when your main can not (also works for holiday items if one blue glow wand isn't enough). Also bank items, back when I needed extra piggy banks I'd often keep a plot reset character around an extra day and give them a million bells to bank.

I made a second (and third, and fourth...) character for a bunch of reasons actually.

- I'm a pattern hoarder. I have so many patterns and tiles that I use for my town. One character holds all ten spaces which are my main path, another character holds up 7 spaces for my water tiles, and another character holds 6 spaces for my 1x1 dirt patterns. The remaining slots in characters 3 and 4 are used up with candy themed tiles and a grassy tile here and there. I want to save some room on my mayor slot, but I already have 3 pattern slots used up on her, 1 outfit slot, and 1 slot for a customized bed I made.

- 6 full bedrooms + the 4 museum storage spaces are not enough for me, especially since I want to collect some of the more rare items/sets in the game, like the Gracie sets, storage for unorderables that I can eventually sell since I don't even like most of them, etc.

- Before I hit four character, plot resetting was essential for creating them. Granted their house was destroyed after they served their use, so...

I used my second character to build a house next to the campsite and I have it looking like a cabin in the woods. The character is going to be the owner of The Kesterly Inn! I'm going to make the second house look like a hotel and stuff. I'm thinking about making a third and having her way up in a secluded corner and having her live in a little witch hut! I also use my second character to hold all of my trophies I don't want in my house/storage. Like the HHA jacket and gold house and gold trophies and things of that sort. That way I never accidentally sell someone I can't reorder bc I was cleaning out my storage.
