Turnips are the best legitimate way to make money on AC. You buy the heck out of them on Sunday morning when Old Joan is in your town. Then check the turnip prices every day at Tom Nooks, and keep an eye on the official turnip prices topic on here. Normally, there's some risk to buying turnips. Not every week will the prices in your town go up, but with the turnip prices thread on here you can almost always find a good price.

Still, my town never gets good prices... My highest was 248 bells each...
