Hi there,

I love the Zelda franchise and I am able to get a new 3ds game. I have narrowed it down to either Majora's Mask or A Link Between Worlds. I know ALBW is older but when it first came out I really wanted it but couldn't afford it. I love Majora's Mask and as a kid I never even finished it on my N64 so I think this would be fun for me to play on my 3DS.

I love replay value in a game but I just don't know which one to choose. They both seem very entertaining and enjoyable but I was just hoping to get some opinions from others! Please don't reveal any spoilers for the games but if you have any reasons why one is better, that is fine!

Hopefully I will choose one tonight :) Thanks!

I have both, and I have gotten more enjoyment from Majora's Mask. I just like the quality tbh.

I've gotten both of those games for 3DS, I haven't played much of MM, as I've always kinda been afraid of that game, but it's not too bad. Tho I'm not really fond of the whole redoing things over and over again just to do something in the game. Gets a little tedious.

Now, ALBW on the other hand, that is a fabulous game. I've 100%'d it, and the Hero Mode on it is great, and super hard aswell. It's a really cute game, and I definitely think I would recommend that more instead of MM.

well they are very different from each other and both of them are fantastic games with replay value, I suggest you watch a few gameplay videos before deciding~

Yeah it depends really. I would go with Majora's Mask to finish that game and be caught up with the Zelda fandom lol.

Do you have any preference to either the top-down perspective or the 3D-movement, L-targeting perspective? If you don't, I'd say go for ALBW first, and maybe pick up Majora's Mask later on. While Majora's Mask is great, I suggest getting ALBW first because I think I overall got more play time out of ALBW's main quest (I'm not finished with Majora's Mask, but I am at the final boss and am doing all of the game's sidequests first)

Also, if you get Majora's Mask, You should probably beat Ocarina of Time first if you haven't already. The game was apparently designed to be a challenge for veterans of OoT.

I cannot stand the Zelda franchise, but strangely took a liking to Majora's Mask. I guess the story and concept just seemed so weird, and also there's the fact that the story is different from everything else. After having it for a couple of weeks I highly recommend it, though I am starting to play it less because I'm too lazy to get all the heart pieces for the end so I don't die as quickly.

I loved link between worlds. I've started majora's mask but I also have problems with the whole redoing things. And I have always liked to mess around when playing zelda and go off on long quest to fly to weird places using chickens. That's a lot harder to do if you only have 3 days...

Ive not played MM yet, but i played a link between worlds, and honestly, it was really disappointing.

i'd go with majora's mask simply because i think it's better than a link between worlds - and to be honest, even though i know this isn't true, ive always seen a link between worlds as a spin-off title away from the canon of the series, that's how little i cared for it and how much i disliked it.

I agree somewhat. Maybe it's because ALBW came with my system but I just did not understand all the unanimous praise for that game. It was a good game but I was reading article after article saying it was one of the greatest games ever, game of the year, etc. etc.

Nothing really stood out for me, to be honest. In fact, I think the game was far too easy and kind of felt cheap beating it in a way. Maybe I need to go play the Master Quest XD

Majora's Mask is pretty mediocre and overhyped tbh. All it has going for it is the 3-day-cycle and dark atmosphere. The dungeons and bosses are among the most uninspired in any Zelda-game. If you like the classic Zeldas then go for A Link Between Worlds.

but on the subject, are you more into 3D perspective or top-down? if the former, then get MM3D. If the latter, then get ALBW.

It's not about how easy it is to die, it's about how difficult the dungeons/puzzles are. Hero mode doesn't affect the complexity of the dungeons at all in ALBW, which is what I meant by being easy.

I could make any game harder with self regulation, but that doesn't mean the game in itself is hard.

Zelda hasn't been a "hard" franchise since OoT. Arguably even earlier.

if you want hard through normal gameplay, you're playing the wrong game

I am going to vote for A Link Between Worlds first if can only choose one, especially if a fan of the original SNES or the GameCube Zelda games ie four swords, then go back and revisit Majora's Mask...it is new version of the old, I lost my original copy that was a special edition could be played on the GC from a friend long ago a promo so plan to get it. But the way I think, how many games do I have already not completed or playing regularly, and the price on this is bound to drop as is new so if that is an issue I vote Link first.

In response to the post above me...
I wholeheartedly agree..I have yet to play the new game, hope it has an old school feel but once the series hit Twighlight Princess and was zooming out games something felt different. I have yet to beat ocarina but will still love the SNES version, four swords, Windwaker yes Windwaker got me on a third try and was a solid game, and all the outputs until Twighlight princess hit. As a throwback am interested in getting Majora's soon as I'm not sure where my original copy went and never got to that one.
