So, the Lotus Pond is one of the rarer items in Animal Crossing New Leaf due to it being an unorderable DLC, and happening to have a medium demand for it. I have one question about it though. Whenever I look it up online and how to get it, people were saying they could not get it and Nintendo did not realse it through DLC. Other said and this makes me believe that the Lotus Pond was only obtained through hacking. This may make the item rarer (i'm not sure). Does anyone know if it was ever offically realed as a DLC, or was it only obtained through hacking, or was it obtained another way? Thanks!

I don't know all the details but I do back when Nintendo was redistributed the DLC, they didn't make it clear what was going to be distributed. Everyone in NA thought that they would get the lotus pond, however I believe it was a JP regional exclusive DLC, and is unorderable, making it extremely hard to get a hold of without duping.

The Lotus pond was a JP DLC that was released in Japan only, but its release had some issues.
Nintendo sent out a notice that it was supposed to be released for a time in NA/EU regions, but when NA/EU players went to check for it, all we got was random past dlc from Pelly. Then they said they'd send it through spotpass by mail with Pete, like they did the White Festive tree, but nothing ever came. No Lotus pond item was ever released outside of Japan, and what was released was for a very short time.

My game is JP version and I received it from Pete by spotpass back then. So it's not hack only.

It's hard to get because it was only given by spotpass. When it was downloading by talking to Pelly, you could just make a new character to get another one as much as you like. But when it was through delivery from Pete, you could only get it by already existing characters in your town. Actually, there was a trick to get more by new character, but it was pretty convoluted and not always work.
This, and like the other posts is saying, distribution only in Japan years ago. Of course there must be quite small stock that was obtained legitimately now.
Any lotus ponds that are selling for like 2 tbt without running out is for sure through hack.
