Well it was probably a stupid thing to do but I got the idea from a friend to use a second SD card to make a town for fun and after I did all that junk I saved, quit, turned off my 3ds and inserted my main SD card that already had my game in it which I got far on.

When I booted it up it said it couldn't find the saved data or something, just a bit red bubble thing really. Basically I have to restart my whole town over. Was it because I switched between SD cards even if the 3ds was off?

Do you have a digital or cartridge copy of the game? And did you create both saves for the same copy of the game? I hear that you can only have one save file (i.e., town) per copy of the game, no matter how many SD cards are used.

I have multiple cartridge copies, and use a separate SD card for each. I frequently switch cartridges and SD cards with the 3DS powered off, and it's fine.

For cartridge version it saves it on the cartridge itself, not the SD card.

Thanks! :) Even though I've been playing ACNL for ages, I was never quite sure how that part works--I mean, if it mattered which SD card was in the system at the time. (I just happen to have multiple SD cards from playing on multiple 3DS systems, so I've had one assigned to each game, in case.)

So it sounds like ThePetiteAnimalCrosser has a digital copy...in which case, yes, it would be because you're only allowed one town per digital copy. I'm really sorry to hear that happened to you. :(

@Athelwyn - I only own a digital copy of the game. As for the saves I did create the saves from the copy of the same game, yes. And really? I didn't know that! Interesting..

Also it's my fault because I thought it'd be fine on two separate SD cards.

@GirlPolarBear - Really? That's weird that it corrupted my game. I made sure to shut off my 3ds before changing sd cards.

@ForgottenT - I sort of figured that happened, but it's interesting to know that!
