Hey everyone. After a little over a month hiatus, I'm back to try AC:NL one last time. At the beginning of February I fell victim to yet another save data corruption and lost my town AGAIN (including all the donations people had given me). I was so pissed off and sad that I didn't touch my DS for over a month. I called Nintendo and told a customer service rep about what happened and how this wasn't the first time and they basically told me there was nothing they could do. I've decided to give it one more go. If it happens again, I'm sending my system and game in to Nintendo (Who have told me that they can't replace my system if there's something wrong with it because they don't have any more of the Zelda edition DS XLs in stock??? How stupid is that?) in hopes they can repair whatever might be wrong with it.

*sigh* What a headache. Has ANYONE else had problems with save data corruptions? This can't just be me...

Do you have a digital or physical copy of the game? Have you may have done anything that could have triggered the corruption? I have over 200 hours in the game and I haven't had this problem yet (digital copy).

So sorry this had to happen to you again ;_;
I'll be happy to help you in any way I can again~ <3

Aww, I'm soo sorry about this :c
I've never had any major corruption problems with any of my gaming systems, though, at least not the way you have. But like you said, I doubt you're the only one who's had problems.
No fear- if you have to send it in, I'm sure Nintendo can replace it or repair it somehow. :)

And adding to my previous comment, I have heard this happen to many other people.
I assume you have a digital copy of this, and there have been sayings with save data corruptions. Personally, I own the physical copy and I have never gotten a save corruption. This could be something wrong with your 3DS system, unless you did modified the SD card in some way?

I actually have a physical copy of the game. SD card has never been modified, nothing has ever been done that (to my knowledge) would have triggered the corruption. What gets me is that this happened not just once, but twice. You better believe after the first corruption I did everything possible to prevent it from happening again. I was beyond careful about saving, making sure my DS wasn't touched by anyone or anything but me, etc. And yet, just weeks after the first corruption, I opened my DS and started the game only to get the very same error message over again. We even sent it in and tried to have the data recovered - Nintendo said there was nothing they could do. I have no idea what has been causing this to happen to me. It's got to be one of the most frustrating things I've ever experienced in my life, seriously.

@KitsuneNikki - Thank you so much for the offer of help. I decided not to ask formally this time because SO many people helped me out last time only for it to happen again...but I will gladly accept anything you'd like to donate. <3

It's okay. This January, I got my 500 Hour Badge in-game.

At February 22nd, my save data got corrupted and I had to start a new town.

Wow, this is one of the first times I've heard of a physical copy of the game corrupting. It really worries me that so many people's games do this.

I suggest maybe getting a whole new cartridge? It's a bit of a long shot, but it may be something wrong with the cartridge if it's corrupting so frequently.

Ugh...I really hate that for you. :(

I guess that's possible although it seems highly unlikely. Not sure I'm ready to drop another $40 on another copy of the game and then have it do the same thing. I don't know. We'll see what happens.

Physical game corrupting! First time I've heard of this </3
I suspect something wrong with the cartridge itself.
Maybe something in the cartridge is damaged, or the game slot in your 3DS has dust?
Has the 3DS been dropped, spilt on, or anything? Same thing for the game, anything happened to it? Give the cartridge a good wipe and if it happens again, complain to Nintendo until you get a replacement, this thing should not've happened to you!

I'd be happy to donate 1mil Bells and some items to you later on in the night or tomorrow :)

If it's a save data file corruption, it's the cartridge or your SD card. I suggest replacing those first before sending in your 3DS.

Neither the DS nor the game have ever suffered any sort of damage in any way. I am the sole owner/user of both. I've only had them since the day after Thanksgiving (got them both during Black Friday). Nintendo did offer to replace the DS, but I was told I'd have to accept a blue or red 3DS because they had no more special edition gold Zelda ones in stock. Maybe I'm stupid, but I wasn't ready to give up my special edition for a regular one with no compensation for the price difference - especially since they found nothing wrong with the system; they were just going to replace it as a last resort.

Thank you again for your help. I'll keep an eye out for you online. <3

SD card has been replaced. Game still corrupted. I guess I'll have to suck it up and buy another copy of the game, see if that makes a difference. Ugh.

wow, that's so awful. D: i think...i might just faint or something equally dramatic and cry if that happened to me. ;n;

i've also not really heard of a physical copy corrupting, but early on when the game was released and folks were talking about corrupted files, i think it did happen with physical copies, as well ( just not as often ) - if this is the case with your cartridge, maybe you can ask nintendo to replace it while you send yours to them so you don't have to spend money on a new one? it may not be the system, after all.

...and, i, too, would not give up my limited edition loz 3ds. T: wat. it's terrible that they're only offering to replace it with the red or blue, but i guess that's another thing. :c

I guess you'd have to buy another cartridge if it ever does happen again (fingers crossed it won't!)

If my game got corrupted (and I actually had a dream about this, believe it or not), I would've given up on New Leaf and not return.
AND, I accidentally set my 3DS's internal time one month ahead then I loaded up my game. It was only when I saw the loading screen I realised what I did, and I quickly changed it back. Luckily, no villagers moved out QAQ
And in my dream, I was stuck in the same town layout, but with the 5 starter villagers. All bare land, no trees, nothing, and then I woke up and checked my game immediately ;_;

I did only about a week ago.
Thanks to the community I'm back up on my feet <3 (Just gotta get my house back and the town upgraded fully.. And the museum, ugggghhh...) Otherwise I'm content. Hopefully you won't have to go through that AGAIN. It broke my heart the first time, but two times over I don't know what I'd do!

I'll help if anything! I know how you feel.. (RIP Mayor Drake of Sophisti)

Oh man that sucks @_@; If you do plan to try again, I'll PM you if any of your dreamies ever come through my town!

I find it weird they didn't implement town backups with dream suite. I suppose it's kind of a shell-town but that's a lot better than losing everything.

I got a phys copy out of fear of data corruption in a game as heavy as ACNL, ahaha..;

The only way to know for sure is to buy another copy and see if it happens on that one. Although I've never heard specifically of save data corruption coming from a cartridge, there have been strange happenings coming from a faulty cartridge before ending in the same result unfortunately. My best bet is it's the cartridge. I know it's a lot of money for another copy of the same game but what else can you do?

I bought my copy for $60.00, but in the shops they can go for $90.00
NZ, why you so expensive ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

That's the most frustrating part, I think....I was just getting back on my feet, lots and lots of people had donated rare/hard-to-get items and so on...and then after playing for just two weeks it corrupted AGAIN. It makes me sick to even think about it. If it happens again I really don't know what I'll do. I have so much fun playing it...it's kind of a stress relief for me...but it's starting to cause a lot more stress than it relieves! Thank you for the offer of help. Hopefully neither of us will ever have to go through this again...

Thank you so much, that's so sweet of you! It means a lot to me.

One thing that's very irritating is that ACNL is one of only like 5 Nintendo 3DS games that doesn't support the 3DS's native data backup. It's like they purposely made it so that if something goes wrong you just lose everything. D:

True. We shall see. I'm hoping it just doesn't corrupt again and I'll never have to worry about it...but I know that's wishful thinking, especially with my track record so far. Ugh.

Is that USD? Eeesh. I paid $40 USD for my copy, which I thought was a little steep for a DS game but worth it...until it started giving me all these issues. I haven't looked to see if the price has dropped any since then...
