Looks like I've joined all those who's towns corrupted.

That's terrible! Do we as a community know the reason towns corrupt? I'm also an avid sims player, and that community has figured out what to avoid in-game to stay away from corruption. I wonder if there's a reason ACNL corrupts?

I'll post this here as I posted it on another thread to what causes a corrpution.
What does it look like?
Once you start up Animal Crossing New Leaf the menu comes up as this.

It will then give you the option if you really wish to delete you saved data or not (from what I know), and start a new save.

On a very rare occasion corrputed data can become usable again, but can be likely to corrupt again however depending (I have seen this in a handful of threads). Even the new save has a chance of corrupting from what threads I have seen as well, but all and all it depends on what caused the corruption/s.

What can corrupt my data?
Here are a few things from the top of my head.

  • Flicking the internet switch while in/ending a session while saving. (Not 100% sure on this)
  • Turning off/interrupting the game while saving.
  • Lack of space while saving. (Not 100% sure on this, and how it happens)

A problem with the 3DS.
  • Dirty or damaged SD slot, or cartridge slot.
  • Physical damage (Such as not treating the 3DS with care).
  • A bad egg (Such as factory problems)

A problem with the SD card.
  • Poor quailty SD card.
  • Tampering with the SD card's files.
  • Taking the SD card out of the SD slot while saving.
  • Physical damage (Such as not treating the SD card with care).
  • Dirty SD card.
  • A bad egg (Such as factory problems).

A problem with the cartridge.
  • Taking the cartridge out of the cartridge slot while saving.
  • Physical damage (Such as not treating the cartridge with care).
  • Dirty cartridge.
  • A bad egg (Such as factory problems).

Anyway sorry this happened to you. I hope one day you may get them back, along with Felicity. :(

EDIT: ^Thank you for answering my question!
I have more though. At least from the population of this thread, there seems to be a correlation between time traveling and corruption.
Has this been proven/tested? I'd be interested in the results.
