hello friends!

im resetting later today and I want to take my island decorating a bit more seriously. that being said, im going for a tropical/resort/relaxing vibe because this is an island after all! im looking for some villager ideas (i for sure want Bud as a dreamie bc we share the same birthday, june, audie, keaton, etc.) as well as some designated areas on my island (outdoor workout/yoga space, star gazing midnight cafe, sauna, national park, ect.). im also aiming for bright flowers/hybrids to decorate my island (so no black hybrids and probably no purple hybrids either)

let me know your thoughts and ideas and any specific items you believe would flow well with a tropical theme :D also, if you happen to have seen any YT videos that could give me some inspo that would b appreciated as well~

The rattan set looks lovely as furniture for a smoothie bar or tropical cafe. I've also built a boardwalk in my summer themed area, food stalls, fortune stall, prize wheel, tea cup ride, popcorn and cotton candy all along it. It looks pretty cool and again that summer or tropical feel. I plan on turning it into more of an spa area in winter.

I've seen some really cool designs for hopscotch and soccer fields to use with the net item. Others have set up tic tac toe areas for another minigame and I've also seen tropical themed obstacle courses made with terraforming and items, pitfalls and such.

I think lilies will make for the most colorful 'tropical' flower, but green mums might also be good here and there, since they're the only green flower in-game. Since it's summer (if you're in the Northern Hemisphere), there's loads of clothing that will match your theme - the pineapple print stuff sounds like it would be a good fit.

ooo I love the board walk idea!
I will definitely have to set up a little area like that once I am further along in creating my new island :)

for sure! I'm planning on hunting for the muumuus and hibiscus hair pins bc that outfit combo seems very much beachy xD

Something you can do besides your beach is set up a little surfboard renting area! Here is a picture of mine

Use the pineapple stall pattern from the Able Sisters, surfboards roped off, and some hula clothes! I can let you catalogue all my surfboards if you like :)

thats so creative! I was definitely thinking of like a little water toys shack with changing stalls + cosmos showers as like a place to change after you've gone swimming. I was gonna do the surfboards/beach balls/and maybe have an umbrella there too as some of the items you can "purchase"

I like your villager choices so far! To add onto to your villager list, maybe Tangy might work. She gives me tropical vibes lolol. And if you need to catalog anything, feel free to pm me! I have a bunch of work out items like the punching bag. I also have beachballs, etc.
As far as possible inspiration goes, maybe this video might help! It also has an island resort theme going on haha.

ugh i looove tropical-themed islands but i just cannot stick with that theme with my own. i have many Thoughts.

o'hare would definitely be a good villager for ur island theme!!

if you're going to reset for a map, i think u should try to aim for oranges as ur native fruit and maybe an orange airport to match it. if u wanted longed beaches then i feel like 2 south facing river exits would be the best for that, but if u didnt want to cram all ur villagers in the north than that may not be the best map for u.

it would be cool if u had a lil boardwalk thing going on; i was planning on doing that for one of my islands but my map wouldn't allow it. my original idea was that it'd be right next to the beach and i'd put all my shops there (i excluded the museum but tbh i think it would look nice there as well). i wanted a white wood path and i wanted to line the whole path with coconut trees & bushes, along with benches, water fountains, trashcans, and vending machines. i think it would be a lovely idea for ur island!!

plant-wise i think that orange and coconut trees are the best to decorate ur island with. lilies r probably the best flowers to use because the red and yellow ones are sooo vibrant and pretty. i think that in general, red, yellow, purple, blue, and white flower colors rly give off tropical-vibes (& tbh i just rly like those flower colors). i think that hibiscus and tea olive shrubs are the best shrubs for the topical theme.

for paths i always thought the terracotta one just gave off a warm, vacation-y feeling which would be nice for what ur going for.

these r just my thoughts!! im sure whatever ur going to do will be cool, but i hope that what i said inspired u a lil!! good luck!!

you definitely inspired me!
I was planning on having oranges as my native w/ a yellow or green airport (or orange bc im not super picky)
I want a big peninsula so I could put my lighthouse there and like a spot for painting
I had 2 south facing exists and I feel like I had trouble with my beaches so im going to try for a different water exit system xD

For villager house placement I was thinking of splitting them up and having like 3-4 small neighborhoods where they each have a small yard with a couple items (mainly places to sit/relax/chill out)

the lil neighborhoods is chef kiss. ive seen islands w/ that system having themed ones like a cherry neighborhood, a rose neighborhood, etc. i earnestly implore u to post screenshots when u get set up 🥺 i luv tropical islands so much

lil update:

found my map!
it has a resident center not too close to the airport
the airport is yellow and my native fruit is oranges
starting villagers are muffy and croque
it has a decently sized peninsula so I can place a lighthouse there and the river exits aren't both south facing :)

Aside from using palm trees, bamboo trees also make islands look more tropical so I'd say adding bamboo furniture can help with the theme too.
You have the same airport color and native fruit, best island combo! lol

I think the shell series and the coconut-crafted items (like the palm tree lamp and coconut juice) fit a seaside/tropical theme well. If you don't mind using clothes and accessories as decoration, the muu muus and hibiscus hairpins also suit the tropical theme!
