Also, I see some people saying that you can just go to a friend's town via Wi-Fi and spam their animals with chat until they bring up moving. Is this all you need to do? The animal you want doesn't need to be in a tent or getting ready to move?

That is false. They have to be in boxes.

And just to check, if you have room in your town and your friend has a tent visitor in THEIR town, can you steal their tent townie? Or does the tent villager only move into the town he is actually visiting?

My girlfriend has Lucha in her tent and he doesn't seem to want to come back to my town lol.

No, you can't. It's a popular myth that you can, but since there's no proof of that actually happening, it's safe to assume it's impossible. The tent townie has to move in to their town first.
