I offered to get someone the items they need and waited a couple of hours.

They message me it'll be a couple minutes because they're cataloging and I said okay send a dodo when ur done. I ended up waiting two hour.

A little annoyed.

What is an acceptable amount of time to wait for a trade before you pull the plug?

What I have started to do is ask "pickup or delivery". Before, I just sent a code right away. The person could have been online at work looking to grab materials before they're gone, with no intentions of finishing the trade until later, maybe several hours later.

Asking whether they're traveling or I am, may have them send the code only when they're ready. Therefore I won't be sitting around for a very long time when they aren't even online.

But yeah, that sounded ridiculous. I usually pull the plug by making materials available again after 24 hours of no response.

That's fair. The crazy part is I offered it for free to help em out. O.o

Unless they say that they can't trade immediately for whatever reason, I wouldn't wait for them for more than 10-25 minutes I think. If you agree to trade and the trader is ready and has set up everything, you can't just disappear right after saying that you were on your way or that it would take you just a couple of minutes. The solution to this is simple communication. If you're busy, you have to ask if it's okay for the buyer/seller to wait for you and set up another time for trading.

Yea... I wouldve be cool with coordinating a time.

I always ask people if they are available now, because I'm always looking to trade as quickly as possible. If they are available I ask them if they'd prefer my island or theirs depending on what we are trading. Although, if the person communicates with me and says they will be ready in an hour or so, I tell them to send me a message when they can trade. Generally, if I don't hear from someone in a day I tend to move on from that trade.

I always let people know if there's a delay, so we can set up a time for later or the next day. If you're waiting with no update for more than 30 minutes, it's too long!

I've never given anyone bad feedback for that but I've definitely been strung along for not hours but days before. I think it's hugely disrespectful to people's time and without a good reason for the delay, it's unacceptable!

If it wasn't obvious by the interactions I had up to the point where we agreed to meet up, I usually just straight up ask the person I'm trading with if they are available to trade 'now'. Saves me a lot of confusion when they aren't. Sometimes people need to do other stuff first, and that's fine with me - I'd just like to know so I can do other stuff too :D

Yea that's pretty crummy especially if you reserve the item for em and the market tanks.

Total agree with that.

I get upset when the person says they will come over, I open my gates and the person takes too long to come. I feel like I'm actually sitting in the bench in front of the airport and waiting irl. It's def a pain. Communication is important.
But on the other hand, it's not like I never kept anyone waiting because something came up, so I try to be patient and understanding

If someone says it'll be a couple of minutes, the acceptable wait time is a couple of minutes, not two hours! It's very understandable you're annoyed :(

I too like to trade as soon as possible... but sometimes timezones just don't match up, or you keep missing each other for other reasons. I've had trades that took several back and forths to organize, but when we finally had a moment picked, things always went through quite easily.

I've luckily never had someone say they'd be there within minutes (or send me a code) and then not do so for hours, though!

One thing I sometimes miss on this site are desktop notifications for replies to my messages (if they are possible, I haven't found them yet). I do sometimes end up making people wait 5-10 minutes because I started doing something else while waiting for them to reply. If the reply is not 'instantaneous' or within minutes, I sometimes end up not checking in regularly enough.

At that point, I really hope people haven't just been sitting near their gates and waiting that long!

Yea... I usually sit, wait, and do other things. I have a bad habit of multi multitasking. I try to be patience :)

I've done that too and not see the notification but usually follow by a bunch of apologies for the delay.

Someone was looking for molly and I offered to get her for them so I went through all the campsite amiibo scanning, making furniture and moving them in and then on other animal to get molly to leave and I messaged them 3 times that she is ready and never got a response back.

It's been about a month now 😌

But fr depending on the trade I usually would say 24 hours

Wow.... Thats a lot of work for not even a reply.

I usually try to set up a time if the other trader isn't available right away, and I'll usually wait around 15 minutes before suggesting we reschedule.

The longest I have waited to trade with someone who claimed they will be free in "just a few minutes" was probably around an hour and a half. I really wanted the item so I waited, but it was definitely an inconvenience for me. The person was really nice and just had too many trades before me, but I think it would have been better to set up a different time instead of saying "I'm almost ready" for an hour straight. I wish they would have just been honest with me and said they were too busy to trade right now.

I don't know what it is nowadays, but so many people don't have common respect and decency for others. It's all about them. You're not obligated to stay for two hours. Or even a half hour. That one is kind of on you, but the person who made you wait that long (for something that was free) still sucks major dog-poop.

I was there before and I let people walk over me, but now I don't take that kind of crap. If you can't give me any basic respect I shouldn't have to waste any time with you.

I wouldn't want em to suck major dog poop lol. But it was a hassle.

Yea I tend not to trade with em if I had a bad experience.
