Not sure if this has been said yet or not...
IF NOT there is a chance you can get him back from someone!
There is a "wifi pool" and if you have any villagers that go to the void BETWEEN THE LAST TIME YOU WIFI'D they are put into that "pool."
When you visit another town, the new town has a chance (high chance...) of getting a villager from that "pool"
I got Eugene from someone who came to sell turnips...
And Gloria moved from my Cycle town to my main town when I had that character come sell fruit in my main town.

Someone already got their Stitches, I believe.
Merengue did this to me a while back, I time traveled less than a single week and she was completely gone. She ripped my heart out and took it with her! My friends tried to save her, but she didn't end up in anyone's town. I've since then reset my town, so maybe one day I'll be reunited! Haha.
