Heck I was a sage back when we had the rank since nearly the beginning, but in order to get that you had to prove yourself an active part of the community that people respected. It took a lot longer to get to be a mod, and now I'm the only one on staff aside from Jeremy who was here since TBT real beginning. edit: and getting sage so early in the forum was a transfer of Nsider cred lol

To get respect you really need to post well, and not just that, you have to be creative with your topics, introduce something new that people like to the forum. You really can't run things that well until people respect you, but I assure you as long as one other person on the forum looks up to you you have a base of support for what you want to do.

I like to think my best asset in being liked on here was my moxie, but not everyone liked me, if you end up liked by everyone tell me your secret, but I do know I am good at avoiding making enemies, and that is really a key to success. I might just be rambling now, but just know that sometimes earning a status in any society isn't easy.
That's so true, especially the last paragraph.

Most people can get supporters, but avoiding enemies is the worst bit :P

I can think of...1 or 2 enemies I already have, and I've barely been here 2 months ;)
OOO OOO! I'm your enemy.
Hmm, I was thinking you, but maybe you'll surprise me and tell me how much you love me? :P
Not a chance.

Anyways, I don't understand Tye's view. Mods usually get worse respect from when they were a member. I don't see why he wants to become a mod, JUST for making events and etc.

The only real differences between mod and member is that mods are staff, and they can do something other than report.

As a mod you often attract "followers" when active. If you were ever on Nsider it was clearly a more noticeable thing.... as people would tag along with them, look up to them, and even join ridiculous pickle armies with some.....

One of the hardest things is not to hurt someones feelings if they get on your nerves.... but with time a follower no longer needs you and becomes more of a friend, and one can only hope better for your influence.

This is really the only physical difference, I am trusted by the founder to not abuse powers and edit things for no reason other than to be a jerk. It really just means trust not to do the forum wrong, but one guy can't fully trust that many people.

Well even on the Original Nsider, Admin_Andy was hated by a lot of people. He was one of the heads of Nsider and very few people still respected him.

True... but I always liked Shaun and Rufus, in fact the nose in smilies is from Rufus :-p

Whether or not you are on staff it still does come down to whether you are likable or not, but even Andy had at least some looking up to him as a leader...
