I saw several times that people becomes crazy when you talk about a popular villager, you know when you talk about villagers like:
Marshal
Fauna
Marina
Rosie
Stitches
Beau
Lolly
Merenge
Zucker, etc...
The people just say "here", but i was thinking: They really like those villagers or is just his popularity???

I have Fauna, Marina, Whitney, Marshal and Rosie in my town, but not because they're popular i just want those in my town when i saw em in my campsite when i was resseting and Whitney because of Apollo.

I mean, the first time i saw Marshal i don't like because of his eyes, but then, i saw him with more detail and i want that smug squirrel in my town, but i saw that his extremely popular and that doesn't make me want him more.

So, you really think that is just the popularity or the people really like those villagers.

My other five villagers are: Drago, Apollo, Erik, Hamlet and Tammy.
Thanks for your answers.

Sorry for the english, im from Mexico so...

For some people, it is popularity. There are towns loaded with nothing but 1 tiers just to have a town with one tiers. On the opposite end of the scale there are people who take in lower tiers for the same reason: To show off their towns. On the other hand, some people genuinely like those villagers. I've got quite a few "populars" living in town, not because their popular, but because I happen to be an artist and enjoy making sketches of them. Don't let anyone put you down for having mostly/only populars and feel free to go after whatever villager you please. ^.^

You're right, i mean all my ten villagers are my dreamies and not because the popularity.

I have marina in my town because she was my absolute favorite villager in Animal Crossing Wild World.
I have a picture somewhere on my old laptop that I saved of her giving me "Her most prized possession: A traffic cone" So now that she's in my town I have a traffic cone next to her picture in my house :)

I have a few of the other popular villagers (Ankha, Chief, Diana) but I got them each for separate reasons as well!

I wanted Ankha because I love Egypt and her house has a pyramid in it and it just looks so cute. I got Chief for similar reasons as Marina. I've had Chief in every town I've had in every Animal Crossing Game. So he has a special place in my heart too.

I got Diana just a few days ago because I designed her house in the new Happy Home Designer game and she was SO CUTE and I love how she always says "No doy!" So I found someone selling her and she moved in the next day <3

I got Marina while i was resetting, so i go to the campsite she was there, but as i see with you, it seems that some people really like the villager.

It depends on the person. Some people want popular villagers, others don't care about popularity. I don't like to choose villagers based on what everyone else thinks, I choose based on what I think. But some villagers everyone else likes are liked by me too.

Yeah, i know that so many people really want just because others think is great.

Personally, I go for villagers that suit my town theme or just ones that I really like. I barely pay any attention to who is at the top, bottom or somewhere in-between. I look at the "popularity" list as more of a price guide than anything.
Some people have all tier ones. Some all tier fives. Most have a mix of everything and that's what I try to do with my towns.
I don't think anyone should go for a villager just because it's popular but I also don't think people should go for a villager just because it's unpopular, either. You're free to like what you like and have whoever you want in your town. You don't have to go with the flow but at the same time it's okay to have some tier ones, no one's gonna be upset with you! (Well no-one halfway decent anyways)

It bugs me greatly how so many people want certain 'popular' villagers in their town, just because they're popular or worth a lot of bells or whatever. I think people should choose their villagers based on if they like them or not, not just popularity or whatever. To be honest, they're just virtual animals. I don't know why people would pay so much just for a certain villager. I mean, I understand if it's their dreamie or something, but if it's just for the purpose of selling/attention, then shame on them.

I really don't think that anyone would prefer a villager just because of some made-up tier system.

Our popularity system was based off of how many people liked those villagers recently. People just think they look cool, I think you're overreading this situation.

Honestly, I did get Marshal in my last town because of his popularity, but more because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I really didn't expect him to become one of my favorite villagers! He's such a sweet, relaxed little guy, and he was the only villager I had who would just randomly visit me. Now, I really can't imagine not having him in my town.

As for Chief and Diana, I had them in the same town I had Marshal in, and I really loved them both. I picked them because I was making a forest-themed town, and I liked their looks. Chief doesn't seem like a grandpa like most of the crankies... to me, he seems like a younger guy who is very old for his age, if that makes sense. When he showed up as a starter in my current town, with his house plotted right next to where I wanted to build mine, I changed my dreamie list so I could keep him.

Diana, meanwhile, was a lot nicer than I expected her to be! She was so very sweet and polite from the moment I met her, and I really look forward to having her again. Since I'm doing the 1/1 challenge, I'll actually have the opportunity to get to know her this time. I didn't have her very long before I reset, and I was doing more time traveling than actual playing when I got her.

Lolly has been one of my starters two towns in a row. I'm keeping her this time, because she's cute. End of story.

Fauna is another favorite, and I've had her in all my towns, but I don't know if I'll get her again. I do feel a little self-conscious about the idea of having so many super popular villagers at once.

I had Fauna from the beginning, I adored her immediately, she's so sweet and I have always loved deer!

^_^ Marshal moved in a while afterwards....I hadn't ever seen or even heard of him beforehand. I was a bit irritated at first about it because he landed in front of my bulletin board, but then I started getting to know him and he's just a little bundle of joy! I soon found the forums after that and saw how popular he was.... I don't like going along with the crowd but then I figured hey, I can like him or any other villager regardless of if anyone else does or not. XD Silly me! I don't care for "popularity" or "tiers" I just like who I like I guess. :D

Whitney moved in on her own right after Flurry moved out, I was so excited because I saw her in the anime! XD

Margie will always be my favorite villager though, I had her in previous ac games and....she was my sister's most cherished villager so I plan to take amazing care of her, send her gifts and letters alot....keep the roses around her house all nice and pretty....ya know. ^_^

I have several popular villagers as dreamies, Marshal, Mereunge, Diana, etc. I like them because I think they're adorable, I like they're personalities, and sometimes other things, like for example Marshal and I share a birthday, and Diana and I share a name.

But I will never judge which villagers to pick based on Teir. If you get villagers solely because they're Teir 1 and you don't really love them, IMO that's an incredibly stupid move. Nobody's going to be impressed that you spent millions of bells on your Teir 1 collection because nowadays Teir 1's are almost everywhere. And that's completely fine. A lot of people like the villagers. That's why they're Teir 1.
But please do not get Feir 1's for the sole purpose of looking high class or whatever you're thinking. Don't be ashamed to like villagers in lower tiers. If someone judges a town solely by the tier of the villagers, screw them.

I like my villagers for who they are.
I chose my villagers before I saw any of these popularity thing..

I'm a bit confused what you mean lol but I genuinely like Zucker and Lolly. I always have. Zucker is my adorable takoyaki octopus :3 I also love a lot of villagers in the lower tiers, like Blanche, Pinky, Portia and Static. However I do not like Stitches, Whitney or Marshal. Stitches looks like he's dead with his X eyes.

The only popular villager that I loved was Stitches, but I loved him, before I knew he was even popular, before I even knew this forum existed, lol. I saw him in the startup screen and hoped and hoped he'd be in the town. Once, I got him, however, I didn't seem to click with him. I have him again, by luck. Maybe it'll be different this time...

I think it's half and half. Some people get them based on popularity, but I think even the people who get them based on popularity genuinely like them, as well.

I have/want villagers in both high tiers and low tiers, but it has nothing to do with their popularity, but rather who I feel suits my town and that I like.

I have Skye in my village because she was an original villager who greeted me at the train station. She's also extremely popular here on TBT, but I didn't even know about TBT yet when I resolved to keep her. I also got Lucky as a random move-in, and adored his undead mummy look.

Meanwhile, I have "unpopular" villagers like Cyrano and Flo, neither of whom I have any intention of giving up. As far as I'm concerned, the tiers just refer to how difficult a villager may be to obtain from someone on the forums. It's relatively easy to get high tier villagers for, but low tier ones take some hunting to find.

For the record, there are Tier One villagers I'm not really fond of. I don't care for Marshal, Lolly, or Rosie... and I have an irrational hatred for Zucker.

I personally base my villager preferences off of their personalities and their appearances.
I mean, it's cool if I have a popular villager, but the popularity doesn't matter to me at all and it will probably fade away soon enough anyway.

While I recognize some people perceive a certain amount of status from having a high tier villager, I think a big part of it comes down to exposure.

People see or hear about the more popular villagers more. As a result, they might think they would like to have that villager too. Another example is when people make threads asking for villager suggestions. Some people who reply might do some research, but others might just suggest ones they already love. As a result the popular villagers keep getting more popular while lesser known ones become increasingly less valued. You don't even have to spend that much time on the internet. You could just keep seeing the same villagers in dream towns. Heck, I've wanted Fauna ever since I saw the game's cover art.

It doesn't always have to be this way though. I've had Beau, but already had two other lazy villagers I adored so I had him move out. I really hope to have a Diana someday, but that's because I looked at the house interior and exterior of every snooty who's design I liked. When I narrowed it down to three I started looking at little things like this skills, goals, catchprases, ect. The winner was Diana. It wouldn't surprise me if other people didn't have that much patience (which could be a reason why they ask other people for recommendations). For what its worth, I picked Gaston as my favourite cranky through the same process.

I really do think that people can genuinely like popular villagers and I think that the exposure to popular villagers is a factor people seem to forget. The important thing to remember is none of these reasons are necessarily wrong (people can change their minds any time) so we should always be respectful of people preferences or assume they're being shallow because of a particular preference.

If your interested in my own bias, I would never endorse choosing something just because its popular, but I don't support choosing something for the mere sake of being different either. Neither one is really all that true to you and I think people should follow their own hearts!
