back when I was still very addicted to acnl I used to write letters to all my villagers everyday, at first I wrote meaningful letters to them until I heard in a thread that them villagers are thick headed and could only comprehend a few words so this is what started writing to them most of the time:

"insert villager's name here"

Friends
Gift
Present

yeah it's very awful but it works XD
so, what do you mostly write to your villagers? do you write a full letter or just random words like I do?

For some reason I love redecorating villagers' houses, so I send a lot of letters with furniture. I heard the same thing as you so I usually just say something like "Hi friend, I got you a present".

However when a new villager arrives I take the time to write a letter that will make me laugh when they show me again later. I also sign all my letters "From your favourite mayor" which is amusing when I write them something like "stop trying to sell the **** I give you and put this back in your house now! friend gift love"

I used to write really cheesy letters to my villagers when I first got the game, but now I only send them random words when I send them furniture or clothes. The only time I'll write something meaningful is when they first move in or their birthdays come up.

I still use that same formula with the four keywords, but I rarely write letters.

i try to send letters to all my villagers on a daily basis. which is a bit tough since i have ten but i go through the trouble anyway. they usually send me back presents and it boosts the friendship level as well so it's well worth it i think.

I usually write "How are you doing today? Thank you for being my best friend?" , might give your idea a shot R-cookies as my townies are being tight with their pics .
