Leif is visitor shy now?

As I was going over to a friend's island, they were telling me that their special character of the day was Leif. As soon as I arrived, we both went to Res Services and Leif was nowhere to be seen. Has this happened to any of you? It's 10 pm where I am now, though sources online say he stays until 5 am.

Leif's work hours in AC:NH are from 5AM-10PM.
