Charlotte. It doesn't make any logical sense regardless of whether it's anime or not.
Our main character is a power hungry egomaniac that abuses his imperfect powers while playing with other's lives. He doesn't seem to improve at all in the series, so it's horribly irritating to watch.
He doesn't live with his parents for whatever reason, but he has a younger sister. I guess child neglect answers a lot to how defunct his thought process is, but his sister generslly turned out all right. Except that she isn't capable of using common sense in a country that has frequent earthquakes. When being chased by someone, why would you move up a building, thus entrapping yourself? Such pointless loss for plot progression that leads nowhere. The protagonist does not improve, he just further self destructs while showing that he doesn't care about anything really by his misuse of quotes and information to sound smart, except that they are completely irrelevant due to being out of context.
There's so many things wrong with it. The characters, common sense, a societal structure. It's basically running on a thought process of a child's. No one tells them to stop. They do get enrolled in a school which is meant to help them use their powers but there is no sense of authority. Which is why so many kids die.
All preventable death and heartache.
It's a mess. It's difficult to emmerse or feel sympathy for characters due to the lack of structure or responsibility.
The misuse of quotes probably was meant to make the main character hated, but considering how the anime played out... maybe the producers didn't care. If they needed a character to die, do it in a logical way.
I id get spoiled of the plot twist / one redeeming feature of this whole mess but it did not make up for the amount of anger and frustration felt. The execution could have been planned better. Then again, I've never been emotionally moved by any Key's works aside from Air.
