I thought we could use a "general thread" sort of thing for learning languages.
So, what languages are you/have you learned?
I'm learning Spanish (have been for like almost 5 years?) and now I'm learning Japanese in case I can get into the International School of Liberal Arts. I have two friends learning German and another who knows Latin.
But, back to my previous question, what languages have you learned/are you learning?
[Also can I ask if anyone learning Japanese has any tips on writing it..?]
I haven't learned any languages other than English. I took Spanish throughout middle school and two years in high school, but that doesn't count. I wish I could speak another language. I'm jealous of the countries that start learning second languages in elementary school.
i've learned mandarin for 8 years and will learn Spanish in my senior year. Of course i already know english...but i also know some basic japanese and korean.
English is the only language I know fluently. My first language, Vietnamese, probably suffered when our family moved to the U.S. while I was 3. I probably speak Vietnamese at, like, elementary school level because I only ever use it with my family. Not to mention I'm also illiterate even though I took supplementary classes when I was younger.
I started Spanish classes my second year of high school, and took it until my senior year. I did really well. I ended up taking another year of Spanish in college, but it was still only elementary level and served as a refresher course more than anything. I still like to think I'm pretty good at understanding Spanish, though I'm terrible at actually constructing my own sentences.
I picked up Japanese a couple months ago as something fun to do during my spare time, but it's my last year of undergrad so the load of classes I have made me sorta lazy. I'm definitely gonna try to pick it back up this summer, but thinking about kanji gives me a headache.
i tried learning mandarin in primary but couldnt pick it up, and then in high school i learnt german. i did german for about 2 years and stopped cause the teacher was really rude
i've finished two years of spanish, but i'm thinking about picking it back up again through online classes. it would definitely help me in the long-run, considering the fact that i want to be a pre-med student. plus, i'll finally be able to speak to my spanish-speaking relatives.
i'd like to learn italian. there's something about italy and its language that really reels me in. i'm thinking about possibly moving there when i'm financially stable and out of school (but i doubt that'd be very soon).
i know irish and gaelic cos family members
well half or 3/4ths know i guess i can understand what they say but i have small bits of trouble speaking both of them so
I bought Rosetta Stone for French but I have hardly touched it, if it counts at all I can only really say a few full sentances, it's a very weird way of learning the language, started out with like animals and colors before anything else, and now it's like, professions and simple actions. I need to get back on it, but I've been sooo lazy. Trying to convince my boyfriend to learn it with me as well.
I've been learning Spanish for two years. I'd like to continue with it next year and once I'm in college, and I'd also like to eventually learn French as well.
I too tried learning japanese but I wasn't learning fast enough so I just gave up.
I'm fluent in swedish and english, and I can communicate a little bit in japanese, french, german and spanish.
I also understand norwegian and danish because it's very similar to swedish. Although, danish can be very tricky to understand because of accents but reading it is much easier.
), and I've learned Mandarin for 8+ years, but I'm a bit rusty in Cantonese. I'm currently learning French in school.
