Lava Lamp Refurbishing Glitch

I've heard of this glitch happening to others before (specifically with the lava lamp and no other furniture piece), so it's not like I'm super suprised, but anyway:

I asked Cyrus to make my lava lamp purple, and he instead decided to make it yellow.

I've heard that it's not like if you ask for purple he'll make it yellow and then if you ask for yellow he'll make purple, it's random, but there is a set way the colors are matched up. So could anyone figure out which color request leads to which other color?

Another question, does anyone know which way visitors will see the lava lamp: the color I requested or the color that he decided to make it?

Cyrus is colorblind!

Be careful when customizing the lava lamp, Cyrus got the colors wrong!

If you want your lava lamp to be…

Blue, tell Cyrus Red (or leave it uncustomized)

Purple, tell Cyrus Blue

Green, tell Cyrus Yellow

Red, tell Cyrus Green

Yellow, tell Cyrus Purple

and Orange, tell Cyrus Orange (he got this one right).

I found a guide on the odors on Wiki:

"If you ask for Yellow, you will recieve Green.

if you ask for Green, you will recieve Red.

If you ask for Blue, you will recieve Purple.

If you ask for Purple, you will recieve Yellow.

Initially, the lava lamp is red. But the game depicts it as blue. Therefore, blue is an option on the list of selectable colors, and not red. Returning the lava lamp to its origional condition will revert it back to blue. Orange is the only color that you can select to make the lava lamp appear orange."

But can anyone answer the latter question for me?

Aghhh thank you for posting this! This glitch has always driven me nuts - I love the lava lamps but I always forget which one is which since the color assignments are all wonky. Thanks for this!

This only happens in the American copies. I can confirm from first-hand experience that it doesn't happen with the European copies and I think it doesn't happen in the Japanese copies due to it being a mix-up during the translation process.

Orange is the only correct one. All of the colours are correct in the European version, which you're most likely using.
