I got mine on the first try too! I was just walking slowly and it didn't attack me.

Congrats. I caught many scorpions but haven't caught one tarantula yet. I did see one but it plopped in the river.

I'd come back from the island with a net in hand just in case I saw a tarantula or scorpion. There usually ends up being one around for me around 8 o'clock. I remember the first time I had an encounter with a tarantula, I heard hissing and saw this big fat hairy black bug! On the same night, I saw a scorpion and thought, "What's with these dangerous bugs?" I almost got stung.
mine was at 1 in the morning, I slept 22 hours yesterday XD

I've seen a tarantula before, but I had returned from beetle hunting and didn't have my net with me. :c I didn't want to get bitten so I just waited until it was far away so I could easily pass.
I haven't seen anything like it since though. No more tarantulas, no more scorpions, no nothing! I'm hoping one will pop up eventually.

I've found 3 tarantulas so far, and I didn't catch any of them. :'( 2 of them bit me, and the other threw itself into the river.
I REALLY want to catch both a scorpion and tarantula this summer so I can get closer to completing my museum...

But I did a reset, so I dont have it in my records again
I had the bug of resetting, it's ok

Congrats! Those are hard to catch.
I don't find the scorpion that hard. It makes a noise before it strikes, so you have plenty of warning. I think the tarantula too, you can hear it rustling around. I'm not too sure on that one. I just recently TT'ed back to May, so I didn't get to tarantula/scorpion season. But I remember when I started playing late July last year, it only took me a few tries before I figured out how to catch them.
Next time, turn up the volume. If you stand in one spot in the dark long enough, one of them appears. Have your net ready. And if you want to go home without walking there, let it strike you. lol, it's great if you're lazy like me.
