You could do like a big rope bridge, where you build a long two tier cliff between two points, and surround the bridge with water. It takes a little bit of effort compared to some easier terraforming builds, but I think it looks really neat! There are plenty of tutorials for doing this on Youtube if you just have a quick search, as well as some wooden bridge pathing and other floors that might go well with it. You can also play around with the idea and make some big rocks coming out of the water, or have little peninsula's (little islands) coming out of the water as well, so it's not so much a set in stone design and lets you have some fun personalising it to your taste. You could even have a waterfall on either sides of the bridge so it looks like a long cliff that just happened to be there, if you're more into a natural island theme over a big man-made bridge. So yeah, if you're down for a big build, then definitely give it a try!
This is a suggestion about the back of your island (so please ignore if it's not something youre interested in). But you have 2+ large gray ledges on the north side of your island that can be used for all sorts of purposes and look great when decorated. You just need a 1-3 wide path across the back of the island to navigate to them (without needing to resort to a ladder). Good luck with your map, though. It looks beautiful!
oh I definitely welcome suggestions for the rest of it! I just finished planning this today haha. ur right I should try to take advantage of that space, I'll have to take a look at the rocks and see what I can do with them

Yes, definitely take advantage of that extra space. We’ve never had four full sides to decorate in any of the previous games. I personally have a path across the whole north side of my island. It makes navigating so much easier And I love decorating the rock areas.
did lots of thinking and messing around, also figured out what villagers I want (hopefully I stick with them)! now my map looks like an absolute mess with all the text xD but I might go with this and see how it goes! now if only I could hurry up and unlock terraforming..
