kukui was started march 20, 2020. as my first island (on my first console animal crossing game!)
it's changed themes quite a bit, but is still the original island ♡

kukui has gone through a lot of changes!
my starting villagers were teddy and phoebe ✰

at first, it was a very natural themed island. it's been redone a few times now to have more of a traditional vibe, and then a more cottagecore vibe, and today is a mishmash of retro + rural/small town vibes!

hey all! this is my first "real" animal crossing game (i was an avid pocket camp player before!), and i'm obsessed! my favorite villager is freya ♡
i grew up on hawai'i and wanted to make an island that was comfy, natural, but city/town-like. hope you like it!

visitor's guide

welcome to kukui! here are some spots of interest.


entrance



this is where you first see kukui!
there is some space to relax and enjoy the view.


farm plot + campsite


to the left of the entrance, there are two small plots: one for farming, and one for gyroids!​

there is also the campsite for visitors ☆

downtown


to the right of the entrance, you can see kukui's prized heart pond!
going up the stairs, you soon reach kukui's downtown area, with able's, nook's, and the museum all conveniently located.

train station


kukui is proud to have its own little train station! the train makes regular stops downtown and to the main resident's home.

resident & freya's homes


gkukui is proud to have its own little train station! the train makes regular stops downtown and to the main resident's home.oing past the museum, you can find a walkway leading to the main resident's and freya's homes! they live together in a peaceful, secluded bamboo forest.



the main resident's home is a little...eccentric.

jaehee's home + café


venturing to the left of the bamboo forest, you'll eventually come across jaehee's café and home!
here, you can get a coffee and work in peace. it's a calming, tranquil space.

redd's alley
​

not too far past jaehee's home, you can find redd's alley! though it looks a little seedy at first, there is a certain charm.

shopping district


going to the left of redd's alley, you'll come upon the shopping district! there's also a ramen shop for the peckish.

misc areas


the rest of kukui is largely made up of living spaces for its other residents, but there are some little spots that make for pleasant sight-seeing trips.

haven't had time to play lately due to school & work

i did get about as close as i feel i'll ever get to "finishing" kukui, but then the direct happened...
now i feel like i have to wait to add a lot of the new stuff! it's a blessing and a curse, haha.
in the meantime i have finally made a dream address and hit five stars! poggers!

and a couple of glamour shots of newer areas i finished:

tickled pink about them, honestly! of course with the new items (and especially farming/cooking) i will have
to make some major layout changes...but in the meantime, wanted to share the progress i've made ☆ ​

happy singles day! ♡ i've been playing lots of the dlc (completed it yesterday!)~
really enjoying the new fresh breath of life that the game has now.
here's some little slices of life on kukui! some of these are older pics that i haven't posted yet, oops...
(there's been some island restructuring but i'll post deets/pictures later!)

it was raining and storming a while ago and i just love the way rain and lightning looks in this game aaa

i've finally been able to add the subway idea proper now that i have more inclines~
wanted to post these since i've been sitting on them for a few days(/weeks/longer...orz)

can you believe it's been four years since my last update!? i can't either!
this will be my final (?) kukui update, as after nearing 2,000 hours in ACNH, i feel that kukui is more or less done!!!

i've updated the island tour guide with my favorite spots, but please feel free to also check out my dream address!

kukui has been in my life for over five years now...! it's been there for me since COVID, until now. i've gone through many moves and personal changes, and it's been quite nostalgic to look back at old photos -- but also a little bittersweet!
this update is a few days after my birthday, and i'm quite touched to think that kukui has been with me for so much of my adult life.

i will keep playing, of course, but i think updates from here will be pretty sparse now that the island is 99.9% where i want it to be.
(not sure if i want to do all the villager homes as well, as i quite like some of their natural ones!)
