Does anyone have any tips fishing for the king salmon? I spent almost two hours today trying to find it but all i get are char. Also can someone explain if they definitively disappear after the 15 September or if they just become available throughout the whole river. The wiki is not helping me too much at all...

Had similar issues, simple advice is to keep trying ! I got char and salmon on the first day and only today got the king.
It does not disappear after the 15th though. After the 15th, it'll be all throughout the river, so your chances will be a lot better if you're not getting anything at the waterfall. Don't stress it !
Salmon and the king appear all day too, so you'll have better chances if you try fishing for them when the char's not out anymore. Char's available from 4am-9pm, from my understanding.

I use this guide to chase off any fishes that don't match what I'm after, until one of them does spawn. A lot of times I find the fish I'm after by mere coincidence when I'm doing other task unrelated to fishing and I happen to be walking by the river or beach areas.

You should try the save and continue trick. I was fishing for both the king salmon and soft shelled turtle with no luck for about two hours. As soon as i saved and continued there was a king salmon at the bottom of the waterfall. I think it's recommended that you save and continue on the beach according to what others have said. I was also able to get two soft shelled turtles too. It is definitely worth a try to reset until you see the king salmon down there.
Save and continue helps a lot. I always find it best to look for it above the waterfall and not on the beach itself, too hard to get it there, but above the waterfall helps. Just keep trying and try to do it when the char isn't out, as it makes it easier to find. The char is out between 4am and 9am, 4pm and 9pm, so avoid those times. Good luck!
