Just reset and here is my general feeling

Oh my gosh! I'm shocked. I thought you were happy with your villagers... I'm glad that you were able to realize that some villagers you liked were only because of popularity. I wish you the best of luck in your new town!

I have been summoned
Fr, I thought i would regret resetting my island but actually I'm really happy I did! I got a better town name, apples, blue airport, good villagers, and the resident services is way farther! I think if you're considering it you definitely should cause it's a nice fresh start!

More shocking than the recent eliminations in your polls haha

All I know is if you remake the polls certain people lose my vote.

Thanks for the luck I PROBABLY need it

@Unhappyhome Do you have any advice for not getting caught up in the popular villager trend? I'm worried that my town is becoming "popularville."
Thats what was happening to my old one. I had 4 new villagers and 2 other popular ones. I ended up letting go Sherb and Audie

I don't want to let that happen to my new one

For reference, here are my villagers. I'm worried that I don't actually like them...

well for starters
Take an old favorite, a favorite you've known before most others, think about what you like, do the same for a "popular villager" if your first thought is "because they're popular" and you struggle to think about other reasons you most likely have been influenced by the fact they're popular and "the latest cool thing"

Also, have you been mentioning them a lot (kind of like bragging?) like mentioning for example Raymond in any post response about villagers?

if you just got them it's probably fine but if you constantly "brag" than there's the red flag

lately I haven't been following this advice myself, but here's a good one: don't "hunt" villagers. just, see what you get? visit a few islands and take anyone that looks like they are fun to be around. it makes them more personal and you will like them more.

i dont think there's anything wrong with having popular villagers (a lot of ppl like them for a reason!!). if ur worried u dont actually like them, then if they ask to move think about how u feel. if u dont feel much then maybe u just dont like them as much anymore which is fine, & u should let them go or give them to someone else who'd give them a nice home. if u feel sad then keep them around for a bit!!

I feel that I really do genuinely like Audie and Raymond because when I first saw them (pre-release) those were the two that I fell in love with. I don't think I've done the bragging thing. I just mention them after I just find them.

you seem to have a nice balance of popular and decently popular which is to be expected

Ask yourself if you like them and why you like them a lot

you may just realize you don't like some after all
The thing is, I plan on kicking out some of them. I really want Marshal and Diana, but I'm worried I just want them because they're popular... :/

ALSO!!!! I realized something, as Ciary stated, don't hunt for villagers, I wasn't looking for Audie and I found her

DESTINY

I never wanted her but i found her because it was DESTINY
same for Reneigh

I tortured myself to get Judy and Raymond and it took longer because IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE

Ooh, I think this might be true. I went island hopping hoping for others and I found Reneigh and I took her. The same happened with Sherb and Audie.

look I can't speak for myself because I have a reason for loving Diana (NL BUDDIES!!! FOR FOUR YEARS!) but there's a reason they're popular, good design

maybe get them and see how it goes?

That's what I think I'll do. I'm kind of worried about Raymond... the thing is though I found him on my first ticket: DESTINY?

I let myself get sucked into the popular villager thing before really understanding the game and I regretted it almost immediately. There are so many wonderful things about the online community, but the peer pressure and competitiveness can be overwhelming at the same time. It can be tough to take a step back and enjoy your own game your way. I'm glad you were able to do so, and wish you luck!

I intend to let Hopkins free when he decides to give me his picture. Whenever that day comes, I'll be sure to let you get the chance to claim him (assuming you don't already have him at that point) since it would put me at peace knowing he'd be going to a good home. Good luck with the new island! :)

You sure have guts.. I don't sadly even thought the thought popped out on my head countless times cause I wanna change the spot where the hall is but I already got most of the villagers I dreamed off, mainly Stitches and Marshal, both are so damn adorable! sometimes I think of just buying another switch to do a new game but is it worth it tho? feel like its a waste of money especially with whats goin on rn.... anyways goodluck on starting from scratch! seems you finally know what you want to do and got the gist of it to love what you're about to do!!!

I can completely relate to how you feel. No matter the popularity, if you don't actually have an emotional connection to the villager, it won't be painful at all to let them go ^^ I had the same thing happen with Marshal.
