Jobs/Summer jobs?

TBT is generally made up of today's youth, but some of us are on the older end of the spectrum, and some of on the wee youngin' side. So, if you're an old tiger, do you have a job? What jobs have you had? Did you ever have summer jobs?

I'm in the middle of the spectrum I guess?I started my first job today as a C.I.T. (counselor in training) at an arts camp (kids in the 3rd-9th grade). It's been good, but I tend to be an awkward person, so I've created some awkward with my kids unintentionally >.< Hopefully I'll get better at it.

I've had a few jobs. I'm just turning 20 so I don't have a serious job at the moment. I'm working at Tim Horton's (which Canadians should know very well!). It's a pain (literally - I burn myself constantly), but a job is a job so I'm thankful for it. I never worked at a camp before like you did, but I am doing a practicum this summer where I do ABA therapy to children with autism at a behavioural institute. It's more so for school, but I'm doing everything all the full-time workers are doing there (so you could count it as a job-type setting). Since it's with kids, maybe what I say next will be helpful to you in bonding with the kids at your camp? As from my experience from working hands on with the kids, if you force yourself to act very animated and provide plenty of tickle attacks, the kids will love you. It's awkward to try at first, but you get over it because the kid's affection is worth your embarrassment.

Going off of what Michelle said about being "animated" for the kids to like you, that is good advice. I just don't recommend giving the 9th graders "tickle attacks", I think they would just think you are weird.

Ah, yes. Good point. I was mistakenly thinking of ages, not grades haha. Only do that to the younger kiddies

I don't have a real summer job, but I'm going up to Iowa on the 8th to help work on my family's farm as a job. $10 an hour and working with my cousin who's basically one of my best friends doesn't sound too bad. Sucks that once I get home, I'll have to look for another job.. But hey it's money.

I used to be an assistant vet nurse at a vet (i knew the owners so i got job h3h3) got paid $11 an hour (which was good cause i worked at least 10 hours a week)

hard to explain why i left, so i'll simplify it;
they got overstaffed, so they needed to either cut down on peoples shifts or sack people, and since i was the least qualified i said I'd step down. but i still get shifts every now and then

Volunteering at the library 3-4 times a week, Even though it doesn't really count as a job, it's something

"Research assistant". I'm working on several programming tasks for an astronomy professor. I'm being paid from an NSF grant, so guess what? Part of your taxes are paying me. Suck it.

I'm currently working in Produce at some nearby grocery store called Stop&Shop. Working 4-8 or 5-9 (PM) for about 16 hours a week and will likely be doing it during the Fall Semester until the Spring Semester when my Nursing classes should start if I get accepted. I'm likely going to aim for a morning job to add on though.

Thanks. It's not so much that I get embarrassed, it's just socially I kind of suck at people. And it's hard for me to treat little kids like they're little kids. I just kind of treat them like people, but I suck at socializing with people, therein lyes the dilemma >.<

Currently working my first job as a lifeguard.
It's good pay to sit around and get tan. I haven't had to save anyone yet, so it's not a very exciting job.
