I've spent nearly a month trying to breed purple hyacinths

Am I doing something wrong? This can't be normal. I've TT'ed through the entire month of May with 0 purple hyacinths. I started by breeding the orange ones, which popped up right away from my yellow + red hyacinths. I'm at about 10 orange hyacinths now, watering them daily for nearly 30 days straight and not a single purple has sprouted.

I realize at this point I should probably just by them from someone, but my stubborn self is like well I've sunk so much time into this already and I have all these orange flowers I don't actually want, I really want to see this through, lol. There shouldn't be anything else to it, is there? I have my orange hyacinths in the diagonal/grid pattern. Do I need to use my golden watering can? I'm saving that for just my black roses, not sure if it affects other flowers, like these hyacinths. The only thing I haven't tried is getting people to come over and water them, but I don't really want to do that if I can help it because it's so time consuming.

Am I just having horrible luck or am I doing something wrong? Any help is appreciated!

purple hyacinths only have a 6% chance of spawning from oranges, so I'd say you're just unlucky.

Ohh, thanks for the info! I'll keep trying. And I assume once you have 2+ purple hyacinths, it'll be a lot quicker from there to get more?

You can also slightly increase your chances of getting purples by using your orange ones to breed blues and then breed the blue ones together.

actually, you only have to have 1
If you water a hyacinth and there are no other hyacinths in a 3x3 square around it then it has a chance to clone itself!

Thanks for all the tips, guys! I'll watch that video and hopefully will get some purple hyacinths later when I play. I just got the Hyacinth Lamp DIY yesterday and have been so excited to craft it.

I don't think so, I've gotten purples from orange-bred blues by following someone else's hybrid breeding guide:

i believe its the specific genetics that the mystery island blues have, so if you're able to replicate that with your own blues you can get the same percentage chance for purples
i dont fully understand it so i could very well be wrong but it sounds right to me lol

Correct, yeah. The Hyacinth found on hybrid islands have the genetics required to spawn purple hyacinth at a 25% rate.

To add to a previous comment, two orange hyacinth spawned from a seed-yellow and seed-red have a 12.5% chance to spawn either an orange or blue hyacinth with the same genes of that of the ones found on hybrid islands. Just getting even one of them increases your odds of a purple hyacinth up to 12.5% if you pair either one with an orange hyacinth.

Yeah, K would know better than most, but here's how I did it:
Breed red with yellow to get orange
Breed orange with orange to get special blue
Breed special blue with special blue to get purple

They also spawn with two orange, but it's not as prolific as with two special blue. Now I just set up cloning gardens to duplicate them, as opposed to waiting for special blues to breed more purples.

I've also never had any purples pop up, or any hybrids really. I think my hybrid luck just SUCKS - any hybrid I've grown myself has never reproduced either - if I get a duplicate hybrid, it's from flowers I've bought from someone else.

This is basically the best way, though there's a slightly faster way:

1. Breed Orange from Red-Seed + Yellow-Seed (100%)
2. Breed Orange with Red-Seed for Hybrid-Blue (Island Genes) (25%)
3. Breed Hybrid-Blue + Hybrid-Blue for Purple (25%)

Once you've got your gardens set up, the trick is to have people come and water your garden. Even just one different person from another island significantly improves your hybrid chances.

Funnily enough, those blues that came from oranges can give purple 25% of the time with two of em', lol

I have gotten one of my purples from the blues K, the rest came from that parent plant
