It’s time to share your controversial opinions

There is a shocking amount of people who hate Marshal in this thread. Just a general observation, everyone’s of course entitled to like and dislike who they want.

You can get campground AND regular items from balloons now, not just the balloon set. It?s random and rare but it?s true.

Ohh boy.. here we go.
-Ankha is my least favorite villager in the entire game. If Ankha was the only snooty villager in the game, I just wouldn't have any snooty villagers.

-I like the personalities of the male villagers much more than those of the females. I like all of them.

-Like a lot of people said here, let people make their towns how they want. If you don't want to see a pastel/kawaii town, don't make one. If you don't want to see a 1-species town, don't make one. What I'm saying is that it's not your town and you may not have the same preferences as somebody else. Just because my town uses the modern PWPs doesn't mean I'm going to banish people to the underworld for using the zen set.

-Having paths in your town doesn't make you superior to other players. Some people just don't want to put paths in their towns, 'kay?

-I'm neutral about Marshal. I only got him because he's the only smug squirrel for my all-squirrel town. He acts just like any other smug villager, so I don't know why he gets so much hate/love. He's just your average smug guy.

-Filbert is a precious baby boy and needs more appreciation.

-I think Olaf is cute.

-The wolf villagers aren't anything special and I don't get why they get so much love.

-Normal villagers have absolutely no personality. (before someone points out that I have three normal villagers in one of my towns, that town focuses on appearance, while my second town focuses more on villager personalities.)

-I like peppy villagers.

- I love Marshal.

- I like Filbert much more than Static.

- I like Francine much more than Chrissy.

- I don't like any of the Sanrio/Splatoon/Zelda villagers, nor do I like Filly, Felyne, or Holden; I just feel like they take away from the atmosphere of the game.

- I also don't like the Nintendo fortune cookie items (the Wii U and 3Ds being the exceptions because of the games on them) for the same reason as above.

- I don't understand the popularity of the wolf villagers in general. I like some of them (Skye, Lobo, and Fang in particular), but there are villagers like Chief, Vivian, Wolfgang, and Dobie that I can't stand but seem to be wildly popular.

- I also don't care for any of the octopus villagers. Marina isn't bad, but there are so many normals I prefer, and I really don't like the other two. Same goes for monkeys; Tammi is the only one I like.

- I prefer the villager models in WW/CF over the ones in NL. The New Leaf ones ruined so many species and I don't like villagers like Felicity, Kiki, Gala, or Yuka nearly as much as I used to because of it. I have Felicity in my town right now and it's so sad because she was so much cuter when I had her in CF.

- I don't like the cranky or smug villagers (in general; there are a few I like, but they are vastly outnumbered by ones I don't). Smugs in particular; apart from Marshal, I wouldn't rate any of them higher than a seven out of ten.

- I think Fauna is extremely overrated; I just don't see what's so special about her, she's just kind of neutral for me. In terms of deer, I much prefer Bam, Fuchsia, and Bruce. I also prefer Walker far more than Maddie; I don't understand her popularity at all.

- I'm not really a fan of Main Street as I think it takes away from the small town feel; I prefer how it was done in CF with the shops spread out in town and certain ones in a separate city.

- The roses are my least favourite flower of the main six; I'm just not a fan of how they look in-game.

- I like Canberra and Nibbles.

i dislike muffy. she looks like she's staring into my soul.
yes, the balloon set does suck.
pastel towns are indeed overrated, but i still like the aesthetic anyway.
i REALLY hate pietro.

I think Pietro is a villager people love or hate. I think he's creepy/cute but more creepy.

My only controversial opinion, that isn't really controversial, is that I think people can be really elitist in this game and can be really annoying.

This, a thousand times this. I stated it above, but these villagers just do not belong in Animal Crossing. I said the same about Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Legend of Zelda characters in Mario Kart 8. It just does not make sense! I would prefer more Animal Crossing characters that were not based off of characters from other video games.

Just me about this...

-I believe people are not being creative enough with the new power to move villagers around. Too many players just line them up so close to each other, and never spread them out nor integrate them into the town layout as a unified whole. There's so much potential to where villager homes could work into a layout, and how they could relate to other public works projects... Yet this remains quite unexplored, even with people hacking.

-Many people rush too much when planning their towns. I notice this especially upon choosing spots for permanent buildings and laying out paths - and it makes for unstructured towns as a result. Towns are better done at a slower pace, so you can observe and play within your layout to adapt to them.

- Canberra isn't that bad, she's adorable imo
- I adore all towns that bring out creativity, even if that theme has been done before
- Idk why people hype up Bob for
- Time traveling isn't a sin, it's so helpful

I agree with this, especially if you don't have time to play every single day. The worst thing about AC sometimes is they put holidays during some real life holidays. Those are days you're most likely to be busy with family or doing something else. But if you don't play, you miss out on holiday exclusive items and all of the holiday exclusive activities. You pretty much HAVE to TT at that point, if you don't want to miss things.

yah is truuu but pretty rare from my experience. i used to pop every balloon to get the series and then try to get some cool furniture, but i haven't gotten anything! now i just don't bother TT^TT

.

For Pinwheel, my town layout is... well. A bit Different from what I experienced from other towns.
Two houses are near each other and each two houses are placed on different areas throughout my town. Why? Well I don’t want them to be lonely. Deli and Tammi are near the train station, Diana with a soon-to-be replacement for O’hare placed in the underside of the river, Shari beside a potential Roscoe on the left side of the town, Rudy and Lolly directly above the river on the right side of the large area of the river... But Nana is separated from Leopold as I want to isolate him near Brewster’s cafe which is on the right side of the town. Nana is obviously near my house.

Another thing: I’m glad the tier thing is abolished. Now all of my pwecious villagers are treated as equal.

I don't rally like the Gracie furniture that much. I like the Gorgeous and Princess sets, but other than that, the others are just nothing special. I feel like the Sweets set was cute, but then the floor is like the same pattern as the table/ chair and it just hurts my eyes >.<

I also feel like the wolves are a bit overrated and I don't really love any of them :v

I find Wolf Link very overrated.

I also don’t like the four Gracie sets that much. The only two Gracie sets I would use are the Gracie set and the Gorgeous set. The Gracie set is better, in my honest opinion, though.

please let me say this

*ahem*

Gracie I KNOW you didn?t just tell so many people during the AC games that their outfit is bad or they can?t dress. You wear the same shirt every day. I don?t care that you are an NPC. And out of all shirts why you gotta wear the same blue with those polka dots and circles?

- From personal experience, I find villagers such a Stitches and Chief very boring.
- Jocks are definitely one of my favorite personalities.
- Snooty villagers were stripped completely of their personalities in New Leaf. I'd rather get roasted by them like in the GameCube version than be so bored by them that I avoid talking to them.
- I prefer the previous games design over New Leaf. Villagers along with the player looked much cuter when they were shorter and wore the little dress.

Keep trying! I've gotten at least 4-5 items you can find from Harvey's shop via balloon actually. It def helps to have catalogued all balloon furniture so that they don't show up so often. I was so surprised the first time when I got a rare item!
