I think they're a very Japanese thing. I remember seeing the name of the item first (getting it as a little leaf) and thinking... what could that possibly look like? So, I was in the opposite situation- never would've thought that's what it LOOKED like

And that one looks customized, btw. I have a plain one in my entry for the campsite design content. You can't quite see it all, but the bamboo is green, and then the rock pool looks like a moss covered stone.
Customization always throws me off when I'm looking at items to identify them; Avery had a dried bamboo speaker in his house and I couldn't figure out what it was for the longest time, because I think of most bamboo items as green!
