Just a few minutes ago in the middle of landscaping, with a lot of progress that I made, my game decides to freeze, and my character is in the middle of running, and the music stops. Like, I don't know if this is just me or if this happens to anyone else? But I'm forced to shut down my 3DS and then I restart my game fine. I have a physical copy, and it's been doing this ever since I've gotten the game, but it doesn't happen often. Is this random and happens to everybody else but me? My copy has never corrupted.

My game has frozen before, but it's only happened 2 times during the 2 years I've played it, and those times were far apart. My game hasn't been corrupted. I think if your game doesn't freeze often and if it doesn't freeze many times in a row, it's probably fine. If every time you play the game it freezes, something is probably wrong.

I don't think my game has ever frozen, atleast on what I can recall. My game's also a physical copy, and i've had it since release date. Is your game pre-owned or anything like that?

Nope. I mean it doesn't happen every time I play or is common, but it happens every one in awhile. I'm just afraid something is wrong.

Which 3ds do you have? Could possibly be a factor.

Yeah this has also happened to me only like 1 or 2 times. If it doesn't happen very often at all then your fine.

It has never froze for me or had any problems at all, although I've barely owned the game (physical copy) for a year. I'm playing on the original pink 3ds:')

I have a physical copy of the game, and it never froze for me, but there are times when I'm trying to connect to the internet and it just takes forever to load so I end up restarting the day.

Never on ACNL but it did on one of my Pokemon games on my previous DS, which was the SNES XL version. My new one is the New 3DS XL in red, haven't had it long, but it's definitely faster at loading and whatnot.

I'd had lag and occasional blips where the game pauses (it happened last night when I was moving furniture) but I've never had a problem where I had to restart it.

I don't know.. hopefully nothing is wrong but it's been worrying me ><; I hate when it freezes because I forget about it for awhile and then it happens again when I don't expect it.

Hmmm that's very worrying! I've only ever heard of people having these kinds of problems with the digital copy, never the cartridge. Could it possibly be a problem with the ds?
Think I'd be having a heart attack if it happened to me but unless you've done something to the cartridge (damaged or dropped in some way) I wouldn't think it's that

Someone had an issue with the cartridge last week. She ended up buying a digital copy on her 3DS and then was able to transfer her town from the cartridge to the digital. Not sure if it's the same thing though as I don't think her issue was with freezing, it was more like like an error (link to the thread here ).

I haven't had problems with freezing and having to restart. I have had issues with some slight lag when I open the game, it pauses ever so slightly, and I also have the same issue when I read any of the signs. I have had my cartridge for almost 3 years (in June) and it does worry me that my game seems laggy during those times when there isn't much going on. Out of precaution I may end up buying a digital copy because I have some dreamies that I don't want to cycle for lol.

I hope your game is okay though. Try to email Nintendo about it and see if they've had anyone else email them about the same or similar issue and if there's any solutions (and answers as to why it's happening).

Does it just freeze without any error message of sorts? I can't really think of what the issue would be unless your cartridge's contacts or the cartridge slot is dirty or loose. Try pushing your cartridge away from the system's contacts like this:

If your game crashes then your slot is loose. Easiest fix is to just add some tape to the front of your games.

EDIT: Digging your nail into the seam is the easiest way to do this test, although your mileage may vary.

I think that's happened to me a couple times. But not in a long time. Hopefully it never happens again. I would be CRUSHED if my game corrupted.

Sorry to hear about losing your progress! I've had three physical copies of the game and none of them have ever frozen on me. Lately though, I am starting to see some lines flickering across my screen, which is sort of worrisome. Hopefully it doesn't happen to you again!

Oh! That reminds me, a couple times when I was bug catching on the island, I don't know why but all of a sudden my touch screen like flashed a bunch of different colored lines quickly and then went away, it was really weird. Nothing froze, but it worried me. So along with that, it freezes sometimes. Thank you guys for the replies, but I'll look out for my cartridge slot because I hope it's not loose.
