Recently I've been having problems with deciding what to place on my island and I was almost certain I wasn't the only one having this problem, so I decided to make a thread for it!

If you're a bit stuck for ideas on what to do with areas of your island (or anything like that) or are able to give a few suggestions based on what you've done with your own island then this would be the place to share them!

If a thread like this already exists, I'm really sorry, I didn't see it! Just let me know and I'll close this one!

orchards take up a lot of space or only a little bit of space, look pretty nice and are also profitable!!

Agree with the above comment, orchards are really nice!

I’d also recommend leaving some space incase a new shop gets announced (for example the cafe)

I’ve seen a lot of people make secret areas with waterfalls (almost like a shrine from BOTW), spacing out villager houses and decorations that surround them (even giving them space for flowers)

I’m still a little scared to begin terraforming because it usually triggers my fight or flight and then I end up restarting haha, but I have quite a lot of images saved on my phone which I’ll be using for inspiration when I have enough confidence to begin.

Orchards are a great idea! It's also useful to have all your fruit in once place :)

If anyone has any ideas for an area of my town I'm currently working on, please share!

This is the area I'm currently working with and I'm not too sure what to do with it! (I know the flowers are a mess at the moment, I need to move the new ones that have grown on the paths.) Originally I had a fountain here but I wasn't happy with it.
I was thinking about having a park here but I wasn't sure how to create that in the space that I have.
If anyone could help that would be great!

Wow, I love some of your suggestions and the areas in those photos look lovely!
I didn't even think about new shops being introduced 😅 that will be a nightmare for me!
I'm the same with terraforming. If I do something, I know I'm going to hate it! 😂

Love the first and last pictures! ♥

I agree with everything here! Being generous with your villagers' yards takes up a lot of space, and leaving some spaces open for future buildings is a good idea. I've reserved some land near one of my small beaches because it's where I'm going to place my café, with an outdoor terrace and beach area included <3

I could see some sort of outdoor shop working in that area! Place one or two stalls, some benches, chairs and tables and surround it with hedges or any other fence! Maybe a smoothie stand?

Is the area you're currently working on next to your museum? I feel like an outdoor cafe/museum gift shop would be appropriate.

Here are some of my WIP areas and a pretty terribly edited map with what areas I would like to create in the future~

Oh my! So many great suggestions and ideas here!
Yes, the area is next to my museum, and I love the idea of a shopping area there! I'll probably make it museum based, but I'd love to make a smoothie stand somewhere!

I love your beach and swing seat areas! I've never seen a beach towel like that either!
Your waterfalls in the background are really pretty too!

I'd love to keep the thread going, with a question of my own! I really love the beekeeper's hive, and just don't know how to decorate with it outside. I have a 3rd-level cliff, sort of in the middle/north end of the map. I was thinking of making a couple hives (most facing straight, one turned to the side to see the comb?) and just FILLING the cliff with my native hyacinths? Some cedar tress because apparently that's where bees live? Maybe some other utility-type things up there just for added ambiance, like a wind turbine or antennae.

Any other thoughts? Other corresponding items?

Also, to OP: I think the museum cafe idea is extremely cute. A fountain could go well there too! Or both!

I think that sounds great! I intend to make a Beekeeper's area on my own island and I think I'd make mine similarly!
I think the key things would be trees, flowers and hives which you've got, and maybe just a few fitting items for decoration! I think it's the perfect place to place utility items too, certainly a wind turbine :)
One thing I would say, I'm not sure if this applies to you, but I really struggled with making an area of third cliff look decorated, it just kept looking empty to me. It wasn't a big area to be honest but I just wanted to add that in case it applies to you. I found it easier to bring the cliff down a level and separate it with fencing. Obviously it doesn't apply to everyone but it's just a bit of advice I suppose haha

And thank you! I moved some items between the area and one below it (both around the museum) to see which looked better as an outdoor cafe/seating area. After that, I felt like it would look best as a sort of shop like area with the area below as a cafe. I'm still working on it but I'm happy with the way it's coming together :)

Also I thought I'd include my island's map, in case anyone was interested in layouts!

This is my island Maristela! It's currently at a 4 star rating!
I have not done too much terraforming except ponds/decorative water and forming my little island! (The river below is the original river. The river above is the river I made to separate it.)
A couple of houses are still being moved about into their spots, the houses next to the campsite are being moved to the back spaces today and tomorrow!
In the bottom right is my orchard!
But this is just an overall look at the layout of my island, in case anybody wanted some ideas I suppose haha 😅

That's funny, I feel like I can easily make the 3rd level into like themed, specific areas (like my bamboo-forest-hot-spring) but struggle the most with the big, open 1st level. I feel like I want the running/fishing/bugging space down there and get nervous about crowding it. I love your wily river! Mine has a big fork too.
What's on the river island on the left?

the areas i have so far are a big waterfall, picnic area, outdoor seating/dining area, little pond and statue garden on the highest level, orchard, flower breeding plots, basketball court, and flower fields

The whole island is a little park! I've got some picnic blankets, garden chairs and a stepping stone path :)
I made it when the cherry blossoms were around so I don't think it looks as nice anymore but... hey haha 😅

Sport areas are quite a nice idea! I never considered having them on my island... I might try it! :)
