Isabelle Bug: Reporting Villagers Clothes

Just needed to get this out of my system since it really bothers me. Apparently, Isabelle’s report feature doesn’t permanently reset a villager’s wardrobe. For whatever reason it seems to be a bug that Nintendo overlooked yet again. I have a couple of villagers I adopted from someone else (and payed tons of NMTs for) that are wearing rather... tasteless clothes. So far, we know that:

  • Reporting to Isabelle only temporarily ‘resets’ their clothing, but they will eventually still cycle those clothes. Some players even report that they will even wear it again after just a few minutes.

  • Villagers who have had custom clothing from their previous islands will still carry that custom clothing with them. This is what bothers me most.

While I love the option of being able to customize your villagers’ clothing choices (as it always has been), there should also be an option for us to reset these permanently. For instance, to much horror, some players adopted villagers that carry malicious custom clothing with them. This can be dangerous especially if you have kids playing with you. I’m 90% sure this is a bug as it would be questionable if they’d put a feature that’s completely useless.

In line with this, I wish there’s also a way to remove custom clothing from the Able’s shop. I have a couple of designs I put up when I was still unaware of this issue.

Knowing Nintendo, I don’t know how long it will take them to address this issue, or if they’re even aware of it.

I don't think the latter is true.

Could you please link to where you found the information that villagers will carry custom clothing from previous islands? QR Designs need to be uploaded to your own island so that items can pull from them, which is why you would have download any custom pathing and patterns to your own game, rather than just access it online, and why you can't send or gift custom patterned items (I.e. anything denoted with a lime green leaf, rather than a normal green leaf)

There was a thread here that touched on the Isabel situation a while back, but the villager did not carry custom clothing from a previous island. A visitor uploaded an unauthorized design to the host's Abel Sisters, and the villager began wearing it. Essentially, the villager still pulled from the current island shop, not a previous island.

That said, I do think that visitors should be unable to upload designs to Abel Sisters other than their own. Perhaps this can be a feature implemented only to those with Best Friend status.

I don't have a link, but someone here on TBT obtained Audie from another player, and Audie would run around wearing a shirt with an offensive term on it.

The reporting to Issabelle feature exists for this very reason. Villagers carry with them designs and catchphrases/greetings from other players.

i believe custom designs carry, one of my friends got marshal from someone and sometimes he'd be strutting around in a shirt with a swear on it lmao. he didn't mind really but of course since there's kids playing this its important that there's the option to get rid of it for good, it comes with the added advantage just to get rid of particularly ugly custom designs in general.

i understand it not getting rid of given clothes tbh. i don't think it fits the purpose of the feature for the game to get rid of ingame clothes, as much as me and a lot of other people would like the idea

I got bob from a trade. He was wearing a custom shirt and told me that it was designed by "person I traded with" from "trader's island".

Stumbled upon an old thread, and found this. https://www.belltreeforums.com/threads/reset-villagers-clothing.516696/post-8893205

I guess they do carry it with them. Would really like to see them roll an update for this. The least we want is for children to see these stuff. That said, the whole gifting system is a complex thing on its own. It’s very natural, life-like and I like it that way. I just wish we can at least remove the unwanted stuff.

Thread in question.
If there's any further need for proof, I invited an Ankha with a boob window dress (I'm never going to get over it).

I'm just in a dilemma of inviting villagers over to my island now. I'd rather just invite villagers from the mystery island tour now unless I'm very sure the person I'm trading with doesn't have any custom designs in their island. Honestly, I hope Nintendo sees that this is a persistent issue that should have been dealt with even before releasing the game since they have a strict policy with "sensitive material" when it comes to online interactions.

Yeah, the fact that reporting to Isabelle doesn't work for clothing really sucks. In the meantime for now, I would just gift as many clothes you can to said villager and try to move the custom clothes or anything unflattering out of their rotation. Villagers tend to prefer things that are their style and preference anyways

Hopefully Nintendo will fix this soon, it's been an ongoing problem for so long

Yeah, Audie in my town got this ugly sweater from Teddy I think that she loves to wear for some reason.

Reporting to Isabelle about it only made her change into her normal clothes until I saved and quit. Whenever I come back she’s wearing it again though lol it makes me so mad.
