Is this a good place to catch string fish?

So it keeps saying that to catch a string fish I need to be on a cliff in the river, so I want to know if what I'm looking at counts? It's an island with a very short river, and it does have a cliff. However, it doesn't have a lot of water on the cliff, just a little circle that goes down to the waterfall where the river is. Is this technically part of the river on the cliff? I want to make sure that I'm not wasting my time, but I'm not a time traveler and I want to catch it before it goes away for a while. If anybody can give more information on where to look for it that would be great thanks!

Yes, you get river fish from those spots, so a stringfish has the possibility to spawn there. It only shows up from 4pm-9am though. I would also suggest making yourself some fish bait to help force something to spawn in that spot. 1 fish bait = 1 fish spawning randomly there. If you haven't made fish bait before, you have to go dig up clams from the beach. They're the things that appear in the sand that look like temporary little holes that spray water.

The river pool on top of the cliff is where the stringfish will be, as long as there is a waterfall connecting it to the rest of the river. So yes, that would be a place where you can catch the stringfish, although it'd probably be better to find an island with a larger clifftop-pool.

It doesn't have to be the highest cliff. Just a cliff, and it does not need to be a waterfall. The river it where it's at.

All right that's good to know, I guess the secondary question is do these clams spawn on the separate islands? I didn't bring any bait with me and I ran around the entire island and i Don't see any water spouts. Did I just get unlucky?

I usually just farm at my home island, and the spawn is pretty high. Never really looked at other islands.

I've never seen clams on any of the mystery islands, personally. I usually keep at least one stack of 10 on me at all times.
