Today when I was doing my usual run, I have noticed a lot more weeds than usual. I'm pretty sure I have been picking up the daily 2 weeds everyday but for some reason, today I have noticed 8 on my island. Is there something that causes more weeds to show up more than usual? I'm pretty sure I did them for the past couple of days, but there is the chance that I thought I did it, but didn't actually, but I found 3 clumped together in space in the middle cliff next to a higher cliff which makes me think it was something else.

Once all of your weeds are gone it's slow going to get more to respawn. If you're in a hurry you can hit up a nook miles island and pick weeds there, and then come back to your own island and plant them. They will spread more easily if you leave some on the ground I think. 
I'm pretty sure weeds just come naturally by time-- but you didn't say anything about time traveling. I didn't know there was a set weed # every day, though. Is that like, 100% fact? (I just feel like I get more than 2 weeds everyday :'D)
I think the likely answer is you just missed them? They blend into the grass pretty well, if it's summer for you RN. If not, I have no idea! Rain, maybe?

As far as I know. Everyday I have spotted 2 and picked them up. My island is always clear of weeds except for the daily new ones. I don't do TT as well so I know its not that. I think I may have missed them, it could be that, but I'm also sure I got them as well.
i dont think there's a set amount of weeds that spawn everyday or else the guidebook would have mentioned that i think. it only mentions that weeds are more likely to spawn near fully grown weeds, but since u dont have any because u pick them that cant be it. did it rain the day before or something? since rain causes flowers to grow more maybe it's not too off the mark to assume the same for weeds.
It did rain for a couple of days I think, so maybe it's that?
that could be. ive never seen that theory anywhere besides my own brain, so i'd label it as a maybe.

the clump on the cliff, was it at the back? is it possible that you may have missed a weed or multiple on the lower level edge that isn't fully visible? I have a spot where I stuck a weed to prevent fossil spawn that is otherwise isolated by bushes/trees/cliffs, and it regularly spawns a new baby weed on the one cliff above that hasn't got a path

I will say, that one that I know for sure spawns new weeds is the only officially placed weed in my town and I definitely have days that seem far more weedy than others as far as spawns go *shrug*
