Is there anyway to know who's in town? (Example, Sahara?)

Do you remember in Wild World how you could go to the town gate and talk to Booker and he would tell you if someone had come through the town if you asked him? That's how I would know Dr. Shrink or Sahara was in town. Is there a way to check this in this game? Or does the guests that normally walked around just hang out at the square?

Sorry if it's a dumb question! I just don't want to miss out on special animals that I may not know are there!

It takes some exercise to get the pronunciation just right. I have no problem calling Sahara and Katie, but Phineas will not answer.
